Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people throught that Music is beneficial for bringing every individual of different cultures and ages togather. Music work as a food for soul ,gives you peace of mind .

Music is a universal language .you don't need to understand the words to enjoy it. there is no language barrier to understand the lyrics. It brings every individual togather at concerts and festivals where everyone sings togather regardless of their culture. On youtube ,spotfiy ,and at concerts people from different region of world gather.

For example Coke Studio pakistan mixes eastern and western instruments bollywood mixes classical and pop.

This broadens our mind about other cultures.

On ther other hand every culture has its on taste .old people on pakistan like qawwali , but young people like hip-hop. so music doesn't always connect sometimes it separates people.Sometme when one culture copies another culture's music , it causes anger , not unity .For example people may feel their traditional music is being stolrn or changed for money.

to some extent , i disagree. while music is enjoyable , i don't think it always brings culture togather. but i partly agree . music connect people on a surface level , like at concerts , but it doesn't bring deep culture understanding . for real

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address the prompt by discussing both the unifying and divisive aspects of music, the arguments are underdeveloped and the conclusion is incomplete. The position is somewhat clear, but the lack of depth prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure you fully expand on your examples, such as explaining how 'Coke Studio' specifically fosters cultural understanding, and ensure your conclusion provides a comprehensive summary of your stance. The current length limits your ability to demonstrate the level of task response required for higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For instance, the transition between the benefits of music and the counter-argument is abrupt. There are also issues with punctuation and capitalization, such as 'On ther other hand' and the inconsistent use of sentence-starting capitals, which disrupts the flow. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'conversely', 'consequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. You rely on basic terms like 'good way' and 'every individual'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'togather' (together), 'spotfiy' (Spotify), and 'stolrn' (stolen), which detract from the overall quality. To achieve a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to culture and sociology. Avoid repetitive phrasing and ensure that your spelling is accurate, as frequent errors can impede the reader's experience.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'Some people throught that Music is...' and 'Music work as a food for soul'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. Punctuation is also a significant issue, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and articles, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for basic mechanical errors like capitalization and spacing is essential.
