Student answer (Band 6.0)
Music is one of the most effective ways to bring people of different cultural backgrounds and ages together. I largely agree with this view, as music can help people share enjoyable experiences and learn about different cultures.
Some people say that music is the best way to connect with each other. The primary reason is music eliminates language barriers. People from different cultures can celebrate the music concerts together, which may help them to make strong connections. Music is the best way to connect with not only strangers but also want to improve the relationship with familiar person from different age groups. Another important reason is that individuals can enjoy and celebrate together. When people attend music concerts with their friends or family, they can enjoy themselves and forget about daily problems, which helps them to reduce stress and strengthen their relationships.
Moreover, music can help people to learn about various cultures through traditional music. Music is a way to experience and learn about different cultural customs and traditions, which can help individuals become more familiar with them. When people attend various traditional music concerts, they may enjoy the festivals and learn more about different cultures.
However, Music cannot bring all people together, as individuals have different musical taste. People have their own choices in types of music, therefore they prefer to attend their favourite music concerts, which is the negative factor that prevents people from being together. For instance, young people tend to prefer modern music, such as pop and hip-hop, whereas elderly people may enjoy classical and traditional music. This difference in musical taste can prevent different generations from spending time together.
To sum up, some people assert that music is the most effective way for people to come together and celebrate. Although individuals have their own choices in musical taste, music has many benefits, including crossing language barriers and helping people learn about different cultures.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that is maintained throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of music in overcoming language barriers and its function in cultural education. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the second and third paragraphs both focus on the benefits of attending concerts. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your arguments with more specific examples or deeper analysis rather than restating similar points. The counter-argument regarding musical taste is well-integrated, providing a balanced view that supports your overall position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, such as the role of music in connecting people or the limitations of musical taste. Cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'However', and 'To sum up' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more varied. For example, the repetition of 'music' at the start of several sentences makes the flow feel a bit rigid. Improving the variety of linking words and pronouns would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cultural backgrounds', 'language barriers', and 'traditional music' appropriately. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but these are occasionally imprecise, such as 'celebrate the music concerts together' (a more natural phrasing would be 'attend music concerts together'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Focusing on collocations and more nuanced synonyms will help elevate your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'want to improve the relationship with familiar person' (should be 'those who want to improve relationships with familiar people') and 'the negative factor that prevents people from being together'. Punctuation is generally sound, but there are minor slips in article usage and pluralization. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will improve accuracy.
