Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing an opinion on the role of music in bringing people together. However, the development of ideas is limited and often unclear. For instance, the phrase 'shifting our generation from one ancient to another' is confusing and lacks logical connection to the topic. While the student takes a position, the supporting arguments are repetitive and lack specific, relevant examples. The essay struggles to maintain a coherent argument, as the reasoning is often obscured by imprecise language and vague assertions. To improve, the student should focus on clearly explaining how music facilitates cultural exchange with concrete examples rather than relying on abstract, disconnected statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by confusing phrasing and poor logical flow. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand' and 'In addition', they are often applied incorrectly or mechanically. For example, the transition 'shifting our generation from one ancient to another' does not logically follow the previous sentence. Furthermore, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. The conclusion is also somewhat abrupt and does not effectively synthesise the points made in the body paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often used inaccurately, which frequently impedes communication. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'stressless and rechargable' instead of 'relieved of stress and rejuvenated', and 'broken intention' which is unclear. The student attempts to use more complex vocabulary, but the lack of precision and incorrect collocations (e.g., 'decent commute of transfer') suggest a limited range. Spelling errors are also frequent, such as 'facinating', 'essintial', and 'morever'. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on using words in their correct context and improving spelling accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that often make the text difficult to understand. There are persistent issues with sentence structure, such as 'the person who usually tend to listen music then they will become', which contains redundant subjects and incorrect verb agreement. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and periods throughout the text. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are almost always faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and correct punctuation to improve readability and accuracy.
