Student answer (Band 5.5)

It has been observed that music is plays an important role in people's life. Some individuals think that music is the way of bringing people of different culture. Therefor, I find the given notion logical sound. My views regarding the statement agree. I will highlight these points in the subsequent paragraphs, which will lead to a logical conclusion.

To commence with the disagreement, new generation do not like to listen old song. To elaborate it, if they will not listen past music then how they learn culture of their elders. Sometimes songs are not related with their present time. Moreover, few songs mislead the culture in this situation will not provide the best knowledge about past.

Shifting towords, views of agreement, children are learning about their culture through folk songs. To explain it, most of the songs are related with the present time so when they listen those song which are related with past time, they knew the culture of their elders. For instance, a headline was published by The World Music Organisation' in 2024 which showed that 80% teenagers knew the past through the old music.

The second reason to prove my point is that some elders sing old songs on special occasion such as a marriages and festivals. For example, children will listen and learn so many things from them.

To conclude the discussion, it can be said despite the fact that most of the music shows the present time situation, which help to learn old culture to new generation. Kids are learning so many things from their elders while listening songs. According to my views new generation learn culture through the music.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt, but the development of ideas is inconsistent. You present a position, but the argument regarding the 'disagreement' is confusingly phrased and contradicts the main premise. For example, you state that the new generation does not like old songs, which weakens your argument about music bringing people together. While you provide examples, such as the reference to 'The World Music Organisation', the connection to the prompt is somewhat tenuous. To improve, ensure that your supporting points directly reinforce your thesis statement throughout the essay rather than introducing conflicting arguments that are not clearly resolved.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical or disjointed. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To commence with' and 'To conclude', but the logical progression within paragraphs is weak. For instance, the transition in the second paragraph from the 'disagreement' to the 'agreement' section is abrupt. Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the phrase 'in this situation' which lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a singular, clear focus would significantly enhance the readability and logical flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'music is plays an important role' (which also contains a grammatical error) and 'learn culture'. There are instances of awkward word choices, such as 'logical sound' instead of 'logically sound' and 'mislead the culture'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to sociology, cultural heritage, and intergenerational communication, while ensuring that your word choices are accurate and contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('music is plays'), article usage ('the way of bringing people of different culture'), and tense inconsistencies ('if they will not listen... then how they learn'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses will help improve your accuracy.
