Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many people say that music is better way of bringing people of various cultures and ages together.

Firstly, a lot of people listen music to amuse themselve. Many people show keen interest in music which helps them to relax. Some people listen music to get rid of their faigue. Music relaxes human's mind and builds positive ideas in his mind. It reduces the stress of many people and plays a vital role in their lives. There are many types of music which inspire the people. A good music attracts people towards it. Many people listen music because it removes useless thoughts from their brain.

Secondly, many people listen music while traveling which makes the journey enjoyable furthermore, it helps people to think positive. The one good thing about this, it brings people of different cultures and ages together It is essential in the lives of some people. Many people cannot imagine to survive withoout it. It is the hobby of many people. Many people spend several hours to listen music.

On the other hand it has a down side too, people who listen music for many hours have less time to spend with their family or to do any physical activity. To listen to much music is dangerous for human's health. The people who listen to much music, do not have enough time to make friends or to play games. Spending to much time on it can be harmful for man's life.

I partially agree with the idea that music brings people of various culture and ages together. Sometimes it causses to fight because some people say this music is good and other say that music is good.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt regarding whether music brings people of different cultures and ages together, but the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The student mentions that music helps people relax, reduce stress, and travel pleasantly, but these points are continuously restated rather than extended. The position is somewhat unclear in the body paragraphs, focusing heavily on stress relief and personal health rather than cultural and generational unification, though a stance is finally stated in the conclusion. Phrases like 'music relaxes human's mind and builds positive ideas in his mind' reflect basic task handling. Because the main theme of age and cultural bridging is only superficially addressed at the end, the task response aligns with a Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand', providing a visible structure to the essay. However, paragraphing is somewhat problematic; the second paragraph is exceptionally long and repetitive, packing multiple ideas about stress and relaxation into a single block without clear progression. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as shifting pronouns without a clear antecedent ('builds positive ideas in his mind'). While there is a discernible overall arrangement with an introduction, body, and conclusion, the lack of smooth logical progression and the mechanical overuse of simple connectors places this performance at a Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and frequently repetitive throughout the essay. Words like 'music', 'people', and 'listen' are used excessively in close proximity (e.g., 'Many people listen music because it removes useless thoughts from their brain'). There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'listen music' instead of 'listen to music', and spelling mistakes like 'faigue' (fatigue), 'withoout' (without), and 'causses' (causes). While the lexical range is minimally adequate to convey basic thoughts about stress and relaxation, the frequent inaccuracies and limited vocabulary scope restrict the score to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic subject-verb patterns. Attempts at complex sentences are rare and often flawed, such as comma splices ('On the other hand it has a down side too, people who listen music for many hours have less time...'). There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing prepositions ('listen to music'), article omissions, and agreement errors ('this music is good and other say that music is good'). These errors occur consistently across the text, though they rarely impede general comprehension. This profile corresponds to a Band 5 for grammatical range and accuracy.
