Student answer (Band 6.0)

Several individuals contend that music is the best source to collect nations of different cultures and ages. Although music bring nations together through reducing culture barrier and promote communication, I partially concur wuth this assertation, because it can weaken the local traditions especially among young generations and create superficial connections rather than genuine relationships.

To commence with the, one of the major supporters of this view is that music minimize the cultural barriers between different countries and offers them to learn about each others cultural values. For instance, Korean pop culture has become well known among different international states, consequently they follow and respect their culture and individuals tend to have favourite singers like Bts members and black pinks group that facilitate them to explore their cultural values. Similarly, music also promote communication between different states by providing them chance to discuss about their mutual kinterests. For example, Youngster in this contemporaray world, are the big fan of music and they love to discuss about their mutual music taste.

However, the counter of this point believes that increased cultural interaction may weaken the local traditions becasue they pay attension to acquire information about other cultures that they loss their interest in indegenous culture.to illustrate, Asian young generation are very attractive towards international musica and their culture that they have limited knowledge about their traditional values, as a result they are unable to relate to their own roots and cultures.Furthermore, music builds weak realtions that depends only on their common musical preferences, without understanding each others personality and characters, consequently the relationship may end over minor disagreements.

In conclusion, While music facilitates to reduce diferences between different nations, I believe that it can weaken individuals interest in their own cultural heritage and build superficial connections.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by exploring both sides of the issue—how music brings people together and how it might negatively impact local traditions or create superficial bonds. The writer presents a clear position throughout, stating in the introduction that they partially concur with the assertion. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the reference to Korean pop culture and Asian youth. While some points tend to generalize slightly, the main arguments are well-developed and directly answer the task question. This performance meets the criteria for Band 7, where all parts of the task are addressed with a clear position and well-supported ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information is divided into appropriate paragraphs, beginning with a clear introduction, followed by body paragraphs addressing both supporting and counter-arguments, and concluding with a concise summary. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Consequently', 'Similarly', and 'However' are used to signal transitions between ideas, although some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'To commence with the, one of the major supporters'. Referencing is generally clear, and paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, aligning well with the descriptors for Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'indigenous culture', 'superficial connections', and 'cultural heritage'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'wuth' instead of 'with', 'assertation' instead of 'assertion', 'kinterests', 'contemporaray', and 'attension'. Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey complex ideas. This fits the Band 6 descriptor where an adequate range is used with some spelling and word-choice errors that do not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures through relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing (e.g., 'Although music bring nations together through reducing culture barrier and promote communication...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement ('music bring', 'relationships that depends'), article usage, and prepositions ('discuss about'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the grammatical errors occasionally require the reader to re-read parts of the text. This performance sits firmly at Band 6, featuring a mix of sentence types alongside noticeable errors that rarely impede overall communication.
