Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is argued by some people that music aid people travel to new cultures worldwide and experience all age groups. I firmly agree to this view due to compelling reasons.
This essay will not only elaborate my perspective but also support with evidences.
To commence with, one of the significant reasons is that listening to song take us to imaginations of completely new places where we cannot visit physically. This is due to the fact that lyrics of the song make us feel in the different environment. For instance, we are listening to English song written by some British singer where he will mention all events belonging to his lifestyle.
Moreover, another crucial factor is to consider is enjoying the different ages. It can be explained in the way that although listener is young but the music he is enjoying have lyrics encoded the part of his forties. For example; a song written by an adult singer about his love story is listened by teenagers who have not experienced relationships yet they would be able to understand the concept of adulthood.
In Conclusion, some people may believe that melody can give us novel exposures. In my perspective it is quite true due to the fact of different singers from different places encoding their story in their music.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether music brings people of different cultures and ages together. A position is presented, stating a firm agreement with the view. However, the development of ideas is limited. Specifically, the argument regarding bringing different cultures together is partially obscured by awkward phrasing, such as 'music aid people travel to new cultures worldwide'. Furthermore, the prompt's word count requirement of a minimum of 250 words was not met, as the response contains only 217 words. This under-length impacts the full development of ideas, restricting the score to Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays basic overall organization, featuring an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though the division could be clearer. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In Conclusion', but their application can be somewhat mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the phrasing 'a song written by an adult singer... is listened by teenagers who have not experienced relationships yet they would be able to understand'. Progression is evident, but the logical flow between sentences is sometimes hindered by grammatical awkwardness, placing the response at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, such as 'song', 'music', 'singer', and 'different'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, including 'music aid people travel', 'imaginations of completely new places', and 'enjoying the different ages'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'compelling reasons', 'imaginations', and 'encodings', inaccurate word choice and lack of precision cause some difficulty for the reader. These limitations are characteristic of a Band 5.0 performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple and moderately complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are multiple grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('music aid' instead of 'aids'), missing articles ('an English song', 'a British singer'), preposition errors, and awkward passive constructions ('is listened by teenagers'). While the meaning can generally be deciphered, frequent errors in grammar cause distraction and occasional difficulty for the reader, aligning with the descriptors for Band 5.0.
