Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people say that music is a good way of bringing people of different cultures and ages together. Music is one of the form of art where melodies, lyrics and beats come together and create a soulfull experience. From therapy to motivation to spitting facts, music always plays an intergeral part in each of these aspects.

In ancient times musicians used to play instruments for emperors with raw vocals to bring cultures together and it all happend for ages and became a symbol of togetherness. From classical to modern day jazz music has evolved drastically to an extent where for someone sometimes music becomes a bridge to know a culture's rich history.

For example In ancient Rome, Music was not only the symbol of art, peace and joy but also the symbol of protest, where emporers come together to enjoy the music of different cultures and artists used to showcase their talents, but on the other hand music also used to protest against the cruelity.

However, some people also believe that, the music doesn't bring people together. For this instance, music also used as a symbol of disrespect by performing or releasing a particular track. In the modern time, it is terme as "Diss-Track".

In the "Diss-Track" the lyrics are supposed tp written in a way where one artist used to disrespect another artist by using an art form. That's why many individuals that music ruins the cultures and build a wall instead of bringing them together.

For example, rap is one the art form where "Diss-Culture" originally originated, in the mid 90s, hip hop came into action.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the issue—how music brings people together across cultures and ages, as well as counter-arguments regarding conflict (such as 'Diss-Tracks'). However, the ideas lack deep development and contain factual inaccuracies or over-simplifications, such as claiming Roman emperors used music for protest. The position is generally clear, but the support tends to be superficial and lacks specific, well-reasoned examples. According to the Band 6 descriptors, the task is addressed with relevant ideas, but some points are under-developed or unclear. To improve, you should ensure that your supporting examples are historically or socially accurate and fully explained to substantiate your main arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with paragraphs used to separate distinct ideas, such as the historical perspective versus modern counter-arguments. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like 'For this instance' and 'That's why many individuals that music ruins...' are awkward or grammatically incomplete. Paragraphing is also affected by very short, fragmented paragraphs that disrupt the logical progression of the essay. According to the Band 6 descriptors, the arrangement is coherent overall, but cohesion is sometimes faulty and referencing is not always clear. Working on smoother transitional phrases and ensuring each paragraph contains a fully developed topic sentence will enhance cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate to the topic, using terms such as 'soulfull', 'intergeral', 'drastically', and 'disrespect'. However, there are numerous spelling errors ('soulfull', 'intergeral', 'happend', 'emporers', 'cruelity', 'terme', 'tp') and word-form issues ('one of the form', 'art form where... originally originated'). Less common items are attempted, but inaccuracies in spelling and collocation occasionally strain the reader. This performance aligns with Band 5, where the lexical range is minimally adequate, and noticeable errors in spelling and word choice cause some difficulty for the reader. Focusing on accurate spelling and natural collocations will help elevate your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at varied structures, such as 'Music is one of the form of art where melodies, lyrics and beats come together...' However, there is a high frequency of grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including missing prepositions, subject-verb agreement issues ('music also used as a symbol'), and run-on sentences. These errors occasionally impede smooth communication. According to the Band 6 descriptors, a mix of structures is present, but errors in grammar persist. To improve, pay closer attention to basic sentence construction, verb tenses, and punctuation to reduce error frequency.
