Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing that music brings different cultures and ages together. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as families attending concerts and international music festivals. However, some arguments lack full extension, particularly the medical application of music, which strays slightly from the core prompt regarding culture and age. Despite minor digressions, the main stance is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into four paragraphs, incorporating a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text, though referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or faulty (e.g., 'although there musical can be separate'). Paragraphing is applied appropriately to separate distinct ideas, but progression occasionally stumbles due to awkward sentence boundaries and punctuation errors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting less common items such as 'emotional experience', 'traditional songs', and 'international music festival'. However, there are frequent spelling errors ('belive', 'reate', 'hellp', 'enjoues', 'perfomance', 'ot', 'oppourtunity', 'cultue', 'rhythem', 'recongize', 'ecperience', 'inerest', 'bencefical', 'seceral') and word-choice inaccuracies. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, frequent grammatical errors, run-on sentences, and faulty punctuation are present throughout the text (e.g., 'music played as a medicine', 'music can relief it can imrove', 'bring individuals from many countries, and they ecperience'). These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher band, aligning most closely with Band 5 descriptors.
