Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 187 words. Furthermore, the writing stops abruptly mid-sentence in multiple places, such as 'As a result , it may aid them to' and 'On other hand, this trend may also cause obstacle'. Because of this incomplete nature and under-length issue, the main ideas regarding music bringing cultures and ages together are severely under-developed. While the student attempts to take a clear position ('i am strongly agree with notion'), the lack of completion and overall brevity prevent the response from fully addressing all parts of the task. Consequently, this falls under Band 4.0 descriptors for Task Achievement due to minimal and incomplete task completion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Paragraphing is attempted, with distinct spacing used for an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the text breaks off prematurely, disrupting logical progression and overall coherence. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or left incomplete, such as 'To commence with' and 'Moreover', but fail to connect ideas fully because sentences are abruptly cut off. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the lack of completed arguments means information and ideas are not arranged coherently as a whole. This aligns closely with Band 4.0, where information and ideas are disjointed and incomplete.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several errors in word choice and spelling that reflect a limited range. Examples include 'rejuinate' instead of rejuvenate, 'intelliactual' instead of intellectual, and 'tio' instead of too. Attempts to use less common items, such as 'multifarious' and 'indubitably', show some ambition, but spelling mistakes ('sidhu moosewala' uncapitalised, 'known' instead of know) and awkward phrasing limit precision. The lexical range is minimally adequate for basic communication, but errors occasionally strain the reader, placing it at a Band 5.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent basic errors, including missing articles ('music is source of entertainment'), incorrect prepositions, and persistent capitalization and punctuation errors (e.g., spaces before commas, lower-case 'i'). Complex structures are often faulty, and the presence of incomplete sentences heavily impacts readability. However, some basic sentences are grammatically sound, meaning meaning is not entirely distorted. This performance is characteristic of Band 4.5, rounded to 4.5.
