Student answer (Band 5.5)
Music plays a vital role in person's life. Some individuals argue that to brought people together from different cultures and ages, music could be a good way. However, I firmly agree with this notion because music concerts are playing key role to bring people close from different regions and age groups, and the emerging trend of collaboration also helps to achieve the goal.
To begin with, although different people have different music tastes, music can be helpful to bring people close. Because music does not contains a language barrier, anyone can enjoy the beat and rhythm. For instance, the concerts of popular artist such as John Mayer is a good example of it, where the old age people also enjoys the music with the youngsters on the guitar solos of him.
In addition, music can also represent different cultures, which also tend to attract more people from diverse backgrounds. Nowadays, many artists prefer to collaborate with other popular artists which are popular in other regions for their different music. To illustrate, there are ample evidence of it like the collaboration of Ed Sheeran with Diljit Dosanjh, where Diljit have his fans from India and Ed Sheeran have his fans from the United States.
In conclusion, as the music successfully brings individuals from various backgrounds and age through collaborations and its own prodigy. I believe that music is a good way to bring people close.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly taking a stance in agreement with the idea that music brings people of different cultures and ages together. Relevant ideas are presented, such as music's universal nature and its capacity for cross-cultural collaboration, which support the main position throughout the essay. However, the ideas are somewhat under-developed due to the lack of sufficient depth in the supporting examples. Furthermore, the length requirement is NOT met, as the response contains only 234 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum specified for Task 2. This under-length impacts the overall development and completeness of the task, capping the score for Task Achievement at Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Logical progression is attempted using basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion'. However, paragraphing and referencing are occasionally faulty; for example, the concluding sentence is grammatically fragmented and awkwardly structured, reading 'as the music successfully brings individuals... I believe...'. Cohesive devices are at times mechanical or somewhat repetitive, aligning the response firmly with the Band 6 descriptor where cohesion is evident but occasionally flawed or mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'collaboration', 'emergence', 'prodigy', and 'diverse backgrounds'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'to brought people together' instead of 'to bring', 'music does not contains' instead of 'contain', and referring to Ed Sheeran's fans incorrectly in relation to the United States context. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical inaccuracies restrict the score to Band 5.5, as the vocabulary range is sufficient yet imprecise in places.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response incorporates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at variety with dependent clauses ('although different people have different music tastes'). Nevertheless, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense issues and infinitive errors ('to brought people together', 'music does not contains', 'the old age people also enjoys', 'on the guitar solos of him', and 'where Diljit have his fans'). While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they persist across the text, preventing the response from achieving a higher band score and placing it accurately at Band 5.0.
