Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task, taking a clear and well-supported stance that music brings cultures and generations together. The position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as K-pop fans in Pakistan and traditional songs at weddings. While there is a slight tendency to over-generalize and some parts could be further expanded—such as the counterargument acknowledging that music alone cannot bridge all divides—the overall response is well-developed. The response meets the task requirements adequately, earning a solid Band 6.5 to 7.0 for addressing the prompt clearly with relevant examples and a coherent line of reasoning throughout the text.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear overall organization with logical progression from the introduction through body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the introduction, the arguments supporting the prompt, the counterargument, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Nevertheless', and 'To sum up' are employed to guide the reader, although some referencing and transitional phrasing are a bit mechanical or faulty (e.g., 'without can bridge gap between various cultures and ages by encoraging' contains a broken sentence fragment). However, the progression of ideas remains generally clear and easy to follow, placing this submission firmly in the Band 6.0 category.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'generational gap', 'cultural exchanges', 'linguistics', and 'musical preferences'. However, there are notable lexical and spelling errors that recur throughout the text, including 'share values' instead of 'shared values', 'culture excahnges', and 'understangings'. Furthermore, word choices like 'finish the age differences' are awkward or unidiomatic. Despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meanings, aligning well with the Band 6.0 descriptors for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, such as article omissions ('Music is regarded as universal language'), preposition misuse ('despite of cultures'), and a severely mangled fragment near the beginning ('without can bridge gap between various cultures and ages by encoraging'). Punctuation errors, such as double periods and missing commas, also appear. Although these errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The control of grammar is characteristic of Band 5.5.
