Student answer (Band 5.0)
Most individuals are of the opinion that one good way to connect people of different cultures and chronological age together is through music. I strongly agree with this claim because music is a universal language and it has a great emotional resonance.
On the one hand, music serves as a universal language to people regardless of their culture and age. The rhythm and melody produced in songs allows strangers to connect on a deep level and may bring about a form of friendship or relationship. For example, Music played in a party which contains different people from ethnic backgrounds can form a friendhip betweej various individyals .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response is severely under-length, containing only 117 words compared to the minimum requirement of 250 words. This substantial deficit means the task is only partially addressed, as the arguments are cut short and remain extremely undeveloped. While you state a clear position in the introduction ("I strongly agree with this claim") and attempt to discuss both the universal language aspect and emotional resonance, the response trails off mid-sentence ("On the ither hand, music had a great emotional resonance"). Consequently, the ideas are not fully extended or supported. To achieve a higher band score, it is essential to write a complete essay that fully explores the prompt with well-developed supporting examples and a proper conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates an attempt at logical organization through basic cohesive markers such as "On the one hand" and "On the other hand". However, the overarching progression is severely hindered because the essay is incomplete, breaking off abruptly in the second body paragraph. Paragraphing is attempted, but the structural integrity of the essay falls apart due to the lack of a concluding paragraph and the unfinished final sentence. While referencing is generally clear in the opening sections, the lack of completion prevents effective management of cohesion across the text as a whole. Future responses must ensure all paragraphs are fully formed and logically linked to a definitive conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used in the essay shows an adequate range for the limited output provided, with some successful attempts at less common phrasing such as "chronological age", "emotional resonance", and "universal language". However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the writing, including "friendhip" instead of friendship, "betweej" instead of between, and "individyals" instead of individuals. Additionally, the phrase "chronological age" is somewhat unnatural in this context compared to simply saying "age". While the lexis is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, the spelling errors and limited text volume restrict the score in this category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses ("music played in a party which contains different people..."). However, there are visible grammatical slips and typos, including the tense inconsistency in the final incomplete sentence ("music had a great emotional resonance" following present tense arguments) and minor typographical errors in punctuation and spelling. Because the response is so short, the grammatical range is inherently restricted, and the presence of errors combined with the incomplete final sentence prevents the text from demonstrating sustained control over complex structures.
