Student answer (Band 5.0)
There are alot of people who believe that music is a good way to bringing people of different cultures and ages together. I completely agree to this statement because music is way to express feelings and emotions for alot of people. When alot of people come to place to listen to music they forget they belong to a different culture and age. They enjoy that moment with other people that are stranger to them for a while.
Music concerts act as a community gathering and people from differnet cities or countries comes to a place unite with other people. Music also has a great benefit to local bussinesses as alot of people come to attend these shows and buy alot of things from that place and also uses local hotels as their accommodation.
Many people use music as a mode of communication for others to express their feelings and their ideas and alot of other people can also relate to those ideas. People that are suffering from different difficulties can listen to music to reduce their stress and pain. They listen to music to help themselves to overcome the grief.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by stating an agreement with the opinion that music brings people of different cultures and ages together. However, the development of ideas is heavily constrained by the severe length issue, as the response contains only 190 words, falling significantly short of the 250-word minimum. While the writer mentions how concerts act as community gatherings and touches upon stress reduction, the arguments remain quite limited and superficial. There is a shift away from the core theme in the second paragraph regarding local businesses, which does not directly answer how music brings people of different cultures and ages together. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a band score of 5.0 in accordance with the descriptors for limited and under-developed ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates some basic organisation with distinct paragraphs, though the progression of ideas lacks clarity. The writer attempts to link sentences using basic cohesive devices such as 'When' and 'They', but referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with repetitive use of pronouns like 'alot of people'. Paragraphing is present, but the inclusion of economic benefits to local businesses in the second paragraph disrupts the logical flow and overall thematic progression of the essay. Cohesive devices are used rather repetitively and mechanically throughout the text. Overall, the structural arrangement meets the requirements of a band 5.0 performance due to the lack of clear overall progression and repetitive mechanical linking.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student's vocabulary is basic and repetitive, frequently overusing phrases like 'alot of people' and simple adjectives. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'bussinesses' instead of businesses and 'comes' instead of come. While the lexical range is minimally adequate to convey basic thoughts on music and stress, the frequent inaccuracies and lack of sophisticated vocabulary prevent the response from reaching higher bands. Words related to the topic, such as 'culture', 'age', and 'emotions', are used correctly, but attempts at less common lexical items are largely absent. This profile fits the descriptors for a band 5.0, where vocabulary is limited and errors cause some distraction.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student relies heavily on simple sentences and basic coordination, with very limited successful use of complex structures. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'people... comes' and 'uses local hotels', as well as missing articles and preposition errors, such as 'agree to this statement' instead of agree with, and 'come to place' instead of come to a place. Punctuation is basic. Although the meaning can generally be extracted despite the errors, the high frequency of grammatical lapses and the lack of a wide range of structures place this response firmly at a band 5.0 level.
