Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, music plays vital role all over the world, while few individual believe that music is a good way of bringing people together from different cultures and ages. I partially agree because of music, people had started recognizing other nation's singers. Although, at the same time some senior citizen prefer to listen music of their mother tongue.

On the one hand, people like to listen english music and due to that they explore different countries and different culture to know how their local people live their lifes. Nowadays, most of younsters are attending concert which are belongs from other country. For example, with the help of english song, most of people had learned their accent and they also speak in front of them, which makes people familier to another one. Moreover, teenagers are not even hesitate to meet foreigners because now they know hoe to explain them in their language.

On the Other hand, there are some negative consequences toward older people. Most of retired community are not able to learn another language because of that they won't came out from their comfort zone. In addition, it is hard for them to understand the different songs and for that reason they can not mix with other culture. For instance, there are many people who do not often like to listen music so for them it is not about to merge the culture with the help of music.

In conclusion, music is best way to bring different age and culture together, however, it is not for all the community. I believe that, younger people like to mix with other culture, while for senior citizen it might be difficult for them to accept music. Therefore, i think those who have curiosity to know about thers they can learn without help of music.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether music brings people of different cultures and ages together, presenting a partially agreed position. The ideas are generally relevant, but the development is somewhat limited and occasionally shifts focus. For instance, the discussion on older people suggests they cannot learn another language and therefore cannot mix with other cultures, which is a somewhat sweeping generalization that restricts deeper exploration. Furthermore, the link between music and bringing different age groups together is only partially sustained, as the focus heavily shifts to language acquisition rather than the unifying power of melody or rhythm. Nevertheless, all parts of the task are addressed, and a clear stance is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6 profile for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is organised into four paragraphs with a clear introduction and conclusion, presenting a coherent overall arrangement. Transitional phrases such as 'On the one hand', 'On the Other hand', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader through the text. However, paragraphing and referencing occasionally become mechanical or unclear. For example, pronouns like 'their' and 'them' in the second paragraph ('with the help of english song, most of people had learned their accent and they also speak in front of them') lack precise antecedents, creating confusion regarding who is being referred to. Additionally, logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by abrupt shifts in ideas, placing this performance firmly at Band 5.5 to 6.0, best represented by Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'consequences', 'comfort zone', and 'curiosity'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and collocation issues throughout the text. Examples include 'music plays vital role' (missing article), 'some individual believe' (singular/plural mismatch), 'listen english music' (omission of preposition 'to'), 'younsters', and 'familier'. Furthermore, the phrase 'merge the culture' is less natural than 'blend cultures' or 'bridge cultural divides'. These errors do not severely impede overall communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition in using subordinate clauses (e.g., 'although, at the same time some senior citizen prefer...', 'because of that they won't came out...'). However, the writing is heavily marred by frequent grammatical and mechanical errors. These include tense inconsistencies ('music plays... people had started'), subject-verb agreement issues ('some senior citizen prefer'), incorrect verb forms ('won't came out'), and punctuation errors like lowercase 'i'. While simple sentences are generally understandable, attempts at more complex structures frequently result in faulty grammar that requires some effort from the reader to interpret, aligning with the Band 5 descriptor.
