Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing how music brings people of different cultures and ages together, presenting a clear position throughout. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as regional Pakistani musical traditions (Pashto, Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi), university concerts, and classical singers like Mehdi Hassan. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise and some points, such as the mention of 'Bela Chao' and Noor Jahan in the planning notes/introduction, lack full integration and development into the main body paragraphs. The conclusion successfully summarises the central argument. Overall, the performance aligns well with the requirements for Band 6.5 to 7.0, and is best placed at Band 6.5 due to slight under-development in certain illustrative examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, paragraphing is somewhat undermined by the inclusion of isolated brainstorming notes at the very beginning of the text, which disrupts the flow. Within the main body, cohesive devices such as 'Primarily', 'Like', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader, although referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as 'All singer' or ambiguous pronoun use. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas—such as cultural integration followed by generational integration—earning a solid Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'solidarity', 'fusion', and 'renowned'. However, there are frequent noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'malody' for melody, 'layrics' for lyrics, 'renouned' for renowned, 'Pashton' for Pashto, 'espacially' for especially, 'activily' for actively, 'utize' for utilize, and 'meaning full' for meaningful. While these errors do not severely impede communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching Band 6.5, making Band 6.0 an accurate reflection of the lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures. There are, however, frequent grammatical errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'All singer from different cultures are', 'Noor Jahan songs has gave the electric wave in a people', and 'music help people learn'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but structural inaccuracies in complex clauses cause occasional difficulty for the reader. Because the errors occur frequently alongside a limited range of successfully executed complex structures, the writing fits the Band 5.5 descriptor.
