Student answer (Band 5.0)

The music is an excellent way to brought people of different cultures and ages together. I agreed this statement to a little extent and I will give the reasons in the further paragraphs to support my answer.

To start the paragraph I will say that music heals the soul, music is the food of people soul. Everyone like music, everyone have their own taste in music and some people have same taste in music. There are different kinds of music like phonk, rap, beat-boxing and qawali. Qawali is a best type of music and it can not be overated, qawali is a such a type of music which everyone like.

Music clams the body and it is the best way to keep relax and it is an excellent way to brought people together. For example, in the villages, there is also a event of music which brought the people closer. Everyone have their own taste but qawali is a best way to brought people nearer. Music relax your minds, calm your bodies and help to overcome your problems. Music is like a dose of multivitamin which everyone needs.

But there are such type of people which can not like music, they are annoying type of people. The problem is not that these people can not like music, the problem is that they can not understand music. They only listen phonk type of music which is very disturbing type of music, so if they listen qawali and also understand it howere they soon fall in it. Music is such a thing which everyone likes and we also see in a music concerts there are many people came to listen music. So, in concerts there are many people of different ages and belong to different cultures.

In short, music is a wonderfull way to brought people of different ages and cultures together.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student addresses the prompt regarding whether music brings people of different cultures and ages together, taking a partial stance ('to a little extent'). However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. Rather than exploring a nuanced argument about age and culture, the response focuses heavily on personal music preferences, specifically fixating on a genre called 'qawali' as a universal solution. While there is a brief mention of music concerts at the end, the arguments remain under-developed and circular, relying on sweeping generalisations such as 'everyone likes music' and labelling those who disagree as 'annoying'. This places the response firmly within Band 5, as the task is addressed only partially with limited idea expansion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, which provides a basic visual structure, but the internal organisation lacks clear logical progression. Cohesive devices are frequently misused, mechanical, or repetitive (e.g., beginning multiple sentences with 'Music...'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, and transition phrases like 'To start the paragraph I will say' are overly conversational and unsuited to an academic essay. Paragraphing is also erratic, with body paragraphs drifting between unrelated thoughts rather than focusing on a single, cohesive main point. These issues align with Band 5, showing some organisation but lacking overall progression and cohesive control.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic vocabulary words such as 'music', 'people', 'culture', 'good', and 'best', repeating them constantly throughout the text. There are numerous word choice and word formation errors, such as 'brought' instead of 'bring' (e.g., 'way to brought people'), 'clams' instead of 'calms', 'overated', 'wonderfull', and 'howere'. Vocabulary is sometimes inadequate for conveying precise meaning, and spelling errors occur frequently. This performance reflects the Band 5 descriptor, showing a limited vocabulary with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly constructed compound sentences, and attempts at more complex structures frequently result in serious grammatical errors. There are persistent tense and morphology errors throughout the text, such as 'Everyone like music, everyone have' (subject-verb agreement), 'The music is an excellent way' (unnecessary article), 'which can not like music' (modal usage error), and 'there are many people came' (faulty relative clause reduction). Punctuation is also weak, including run-on sentences joined incorrectly with commas. These frequent errors place the text at Band 5.
