Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing how music brings different cultures and ages together, presenting a clear overall position in agreement. Ideas are extended with examples, such as reference to a social experiment and the University of Melbourne students. However, some arguments lack deep development and remain somewhat general, such as the claim about traditional music and the broad assertion about therapy. Overall, all parts of the prompt are addressed, meeting the expectations for a Band 6.0 performance under Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised, separating distinct ideas about age and culture. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical, with repetitive transitional phrases like "And also" and "As an example" introducing nearly every supporting point. Referencing and logical progression are occasionally hindered by abrupt sentence structures and fragmented thoughts. These issues align well with the Band 6.0 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as "universal language," "traditional music," and "interaction." There are noticeable errors in word choice and morphology, such as "enjoying" instead of "enjoyment," "young adultes," and phrases like "hits very different" which sound overly informal. Spelling and word-formation errors do not impede communication, placing the response solidly at Band 6.0 for Lexical Resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as sentence fragments ("Because, music can use as a universal language"), incorrect passive voice construction ("Music known as a universal language"), and subject-verb agreement issues ("is a same song that sing"). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they frequently disrupt the flow of the text, preventing the response from reaching a Band 6.5.
