Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals believe that music is a beneficial way to bring people of various cultures and ages together. I strongly agree with this view mainly because music allows people to enjoy and release their stress. It plays a significant role in gathering people of different traditions.

The main reason I agree with this view is that music provides a great opportunity for celebration and amusement to people. This is mainly because most individuals have interest in musical activities such as concerts and musical nights. For example, a family arranges a musical event in their home, and invites their friends. It helps their friends to become a part of social gathering, which provides a suitable way to make new friends. As a result, music is a advantageous method to bring people of different age groups together.

Another compelling reason is that, people find music an effective way to overcome their daily-life stress and to have fun with their friends and family. Moreover, International music events play an important role to gather people from different nations and cultures and allows them to learn about various other cultures. For instance, BTS which is a Korean music band, receives popularity all around the world not just from koreans. Consequently, people from different countries with their unique cultures enjoy musical events toghether.

In conclusion, I firmly agree with this statement particularly because music allows people to make friends from different ages and a beneficial way to learn about new cultures. For these reasons, I believe that music is important to bring people together.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, agreeing that music brings different cultures and ages together. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, while the point about family musical events and social gathering is clear, the explanation of international music events and the BTS example remains somewhat general and lacks deeper expansion. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to fully develop all main points with more extended examples and deeper analysis rather than relying on brief illustrations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the writing is divided into distinct paragraphs. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always completely clear. For instance, transitional phrases like 'The main reason I agree with this view is that' and 'Another compelling reason is that' are somewhat formulaic. To achieve a higher band, the student should ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and fluidly, and logical transitions between sentences should be managed with greater subtlety to create a smoother progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, and the writer attempts some less common items such as 'compelling reason', 'advantageous method', and 'international music events'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling, such as 'advantageous method' where 'beneficial' might sound more natural, and spelling errors like 'toghether' instead of 'together' and 'koreans' with a lowercase letter. These errors do not impede communication, but to reach a higher level, the vocabulary must demonstrate greater precision, natural collocation, and flawless spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating that the writer can handle various structures such as relative clauses and conditional-style ideas. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('people find music an effective way', 'receives popularity'), incorrect prepositions or phrasing ('interest in musical activities', 'gather people from different nations'), and comma splices or unnecessary commas ('Another compelling reason is that, people find...'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication. To progress further, the writer should aim for a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and refine punctuation control.
