Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that music brings cultures and ages together, and supports this view with relevant examples such as Coke Studio and wedding celebrations. However, the development of ideas varies in depth. While some points like the example from Pakistan are fairly well elaborated, others remain somewhat general or under-developed. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more fully extended and supported with deeper analysis, avoiding sweeping generalisations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance maintained throughout. Paragraphing is attempted, though the flow between sentences can sometimes feel mechanical due to repetitive use of cohesive devices and transitional phrases like 'furthermore' and 'to illustrate'. Referencing and logical progression are mostly clear, but the links between ideas occasionally lack smooth transitions. To improve further, the writer should employ a more varied and flexible range of cohesive devices without over-relying on basic connectors, and ensure paragraph structures are more balanced.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common items such as 'disparate generation' and 'sentiment'. However, there are notable word choice, collocation, and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'utter most medium', 'accumulate peoples', and 'seats' instead of 'sects'. Although these errors do not seriously impede communication, they reflect an inconsistent control of lexical features. Improving precision in word formation and collocation would elevate the lexical score significantly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at variety. However, there are noticeable errors in grammar, articles, prepositions, and punctuation throughout the text, such as in 'I am totally agreed', 'the are multiple paradigm', and missing commas. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from achieving a higher level of grammatical control. A stronger command of complex sentence structures and more careful proofreading are needed.
