Student answer (Band 6.5)

A number of people believe music to be an efficient way of uniting people from diverse culture and across different age groups. I strongy agree with the notion as music has the ability blend people globally.

To begin with music is a globally recognized entity; across all the cultures it has a great significance. Almost all the regions have their own folk musics, this common ground is what unifies people. Individuals become curious about other region's folklore that are incorporated in songs and often times without knowing its language or meaning they feel an attachmnet towards it. This cross-cultural connection helps people to acknowledge people from diverse cultural backgrounds, accept them which prompts them to overcome the rigid prejudices, thus establishing a peaceful multicultural society build on common music interest.

In addition to this people also bond over the same music artist which is not limited to a single age. A lot times individuals are not able to find their companion or friends simply because others do not understand their emotional conditions. Music assists in solving this problem, during concerts and music events people are surrounded by the a crowd of like mindeds who enjoy the same music taste. This helps indivuduals to bond over a common artists. Therefore, music creates a safe space for common mindede people irrespective of their age group.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that music is the best method to bring people closer and end the old prejudices. It helps them to relate with each other through making a common ground to bond over.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, presenting a clear position throughout in agreement with the idea that music brings people of different cultures and ages together. The ideas presented are relevant to the task, discussing cross-cultural curiosity and shared artist appreciation across generations. However, some aspects are under-developed rather than fully extended; for instance, the point regarding age groups is introduced in the third paragraph but remains somewhat general without a concrete example or deeper elaboration. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully extend and support all main ideas with more specific details or broader implications.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments about culture and age. However, cohesion within and between sentences is occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the missing transition at the start of the second paragraph ("To begin with music is...") and ambiguous referencing in phrases like "a lot times individuals". Additionally, punctuation errors around linking devices affect the flow. To achieve a higher standard, the writer should employ a wider range of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure referencing is consistently clear throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their thoughts on culture and age effectively. There are successful attempts to use less common items such as "multicultural society", "folklore", and "prejudices". However, there are noticeable word-choice errors, spelling mistakes, and slip-ups that prevent the language from reaching the next level, including "strongy" instead of strongly, "blend people" instead of unite or blend people together, "attachmnet", and "mindeds". These minor lexical inaccuracies do not impede communication, but to progress, the writer must demonstrate greater precision in word choice and collocation, as well as flawless spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to handle varied grammatical structures such as relative clauses and participial phrases. However, there are several errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly missing commas in compound and introductory structures, run-on tendencies in sentences like "Almost all the regions have their own folk musics, this common ground is what unifies people", and subject-verb agreement or article slips. Despite these issues, the errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To move up, the writer should aim for a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over punctuation and clause boundaries.
