Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is believed by a few individuals that music is a good way of bringing people of different cultures and ages together. In this essay I will discuss why I partially agree with this statement and discuss my own opinion.

On the one hand, in this busy world it is not easy to make people together. However, some people say that music can make people together and can bringing people of different cultures. To elaborate it, every culture have their own traditional music. There are also many types of music in the world. For example, Folk songs, beat songs and sad songs. People can familiar with other cultures by listening to the music. People can gain knowledge about their culture. Also, they can learn new language and words by listening to the music. Moreover, music can also bring people together. There are many ways on the internet to bring people together. Many people posted every new song on their music accounts by which people can contact them for asking for any song. This can make people contact with each other.

On the other hand, I think it cannot compeletly bringing people of different cultures and ages together. For instance, some people do not like to listening to the music. In addition, some people like to listening music of their own culture. If sometimes people listening to the music of other cultures but they do not like to contact with the people who posted the songs. They can listening music on the other apps where they do not need to contact any person. So, It is not only the way of brining people of different cultures and ages together.

In conclusion, although music is good way to bringing people of different cultures. However, I partially agree with this because many people do not like to contact people who posted the music albums on their accounts.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt partially, expressing a position agreeing and disagreeing with the statement, but the development of ideas remains limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on how music fosters cultural understanding is superficial, relying on general statements like people can learn new language and words by listening to the music without sufficient explanation or specific examples. The counter-argument in the second body paragraph similarly lacks depth, focusing narrowly on whether people like to contact music posters rather than exploring broader cultural and generational divides. Note that 23 words copied directly from the task prompt were not counted in the final word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation with clear paragraph breaks and introduction/conclusion signposts, but the essay lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are frequently repetitive and mechanical, such as the overuse of 'also', 'moreover', and 'some people say' to link sentences and ideas. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the conclusion where 'this' lacks a precise antecedent. While the paragraphs have a distinct focus, the internal flow between sentences often feels disjointed, preventing a smoother logical development throughout the essay.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word formations that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'bringing' instead of 'bring' ('can bringing people'), 'compeletly' (spelling error), and 'listening to the music' versus 'listening music'. The student also relies heavily on repetitive phrasing, using basic terms like 'people', 'culture', and 'music' throughout the response without demonstrating the ability to use less common lexical items accurately or flexibly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'every culture have' instead of 'has', 'People can familiar' instead of 'familiarise', and 'listening music on the other apps'. Punctuation and sentence boundary errors also occur, such as sentence fragments in the conclusion starting with 'However'. These persistent errors reflect a restricted grammatical control that can cause difficulty for the reader.
