Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially, presenting a clear position that music brings people of different cultures and ages together, but the ideas are limited and under-developed. While the writer attempts to support the argument with examples such as Diwali celebrations in India and school cultural events, these examples lack sufficient expansion and depth. Certain arguments, such as the mention of online playlists, feel disconnected and tangential rather than fully integrated into a cohesive line of reasoning. To move higher, the response would need to extend and fully develop its main ideas with more robust, specific examples and maintain a clearer, more consistent line of argument throughout every paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organisation with attempts at paragraphing, but the essay lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraph breaks and transitions are occasionally awkward, such as the sudden shift between the introduction and body paragraphs, and cohesive devices are frequently repetitive, inaccurate, or inadequate. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', and 'However' are used mechanically and sometimes applied where the logical relationship they signal does not fit the flow of ideas. Pronoun referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it harder for the reader to follow the exact connections between concepts. Improving cohesion requires more natural transitions and a clearer logical structure linking each paragraph to the central thesis.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic meaning. The writer attempts some less common terms and attempts to discuss cultural concepts, but there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as 'fevestivals', 'homegod', and 'inorder'. These lexical inaccuracies and occasional spelling slips sometimes cause minor difficulty for the reader in grasping the exact intent. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary, use less common lexical items with greater precision regarding style and collocation, and ensure correct word forms and spelling throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences or attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, articles, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as in the phrases 'the humans life are associated' and 'in India country'. These persistent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in places. To reach a higher standard, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater accuracy, ensuring better control over basic grammatical agreements, tense consistency, and punctuation.
