Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many believe that music functions as a universal language that transcends both generational and cultural divides. For me i really connect with that belief, i think music is a great way to understand and learn about other people and it can really make you connect with different categories of age.
Music is a form of art that travels far from just the language you can speak or the era you were born in.
Especially in this century where we can play any song from anywhere just by a simple click on the computer or phone. It's easier and cheaper, Which made us open to different genres of music from different countries. Also the fact that social media relies heavily on theme songs or a vibe made it even more widely used from different categories of people. If a song is trendy has a good melody or theme to the vibe i wanna share it doesn't matter the language or where it's from its going to be used. When i was a kid western music was a big part of my hangout with my cousins because its fun to choreograph dances to them which was a great way to learn english and connect with the older kids. We've also seen the trends of kpop music a lot of teens and young people started listening to kpop through the years even though they don't speak Korean. And lately we've seen some western artists collaborate with kpop artist and make some good songs. Overall, music really did connect us from different places and different ages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position regarding how music bridges cultural and generational gaps. Relevant ideas are presented, such as the accessibility of music through modern technology and personal anecdotes involving childhood experiences with western music and the rising trend of K-pop. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; the opening paragraph introduces the points well, but certain supporting explanations remain slightly brief and touch upon aspects rather than fully extending them. The progression of thought demonstrates a good understanding of the prompt, satisfying the requirements for this level while hinting at fuller elaboration seen in higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and follows a recognizable line of argument regarding the unifying power of music. Paragraphing, however, is a notable weakness: the entire body of the essay is collapsed into a single, overly dense block of text following the introduction, which impacts the overall logical progression. While cohesive devices such as 'Also', 'If', and 'Overall' are employed, referencing is sometimes mechanical, and the lack of clear paragraph breaks makes the transition between different ideas, such as the shift from internet accessibility to personal childhood memories and K-pop trends, somewhat abrupt. This reflects an intermediate level of organizational control.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's meaning throughout. There are attempts to incorporate less common vocabulary and appropriate thematic terms, such as 'universal language', 'transcends', 'collaborate', and 'genre'. However, some word-choice and phrasing inaccuracies appear, such as 'categories of age' instead of 'age groups' or 'generations', and 'theme songs or a vibe' which leans toward informal or colloquial style. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, and these minor lexical slips do not impede communication, placing the vocabulary firmly in the mid-tier range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as 'Especially in this century where we can play any song from anywhere just by a simple click...' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing commas, run-on sentences like 'If a song is trendy has a good melody or theme to the vibe i wanna share it doesn't matter the language or where it's from its going to be used', and capitalization issues (e.g., 'i', 'kpop'). Despite these lapses, the structures are varied enough and the errors are infrequent enough that they rarely impede communication, aligning with the expected profile.
