Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address the topic and give a clear overall view that music can unite people across cultures and ages. The examples of cultural events at Shahi Qila and a Saraiki singer whose song is enjoyed by people who do not understand the words are relevant and help illustrate this position. However, the opening says the essay will discuss the issue without clearly stating how far you agree, and the age-related point about young people preferring pop and older people preferring classical music is not fully connected to how music brings them together. The response is also 23 words below the required minimum; the eight words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop your explanation and add a further supporting detail to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The examples are placed in relevant paragraphs, and phrases such as “For example” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression between ideas is sometimes unclear. The paragraph about different age groups lists musical preferences but does not explain the connection to bringing people together, while “In current situation” introduces the singer example without a clear link to the preceding point. Some linking is repetitive or awkward, including repeated use of “everyone” and “but.” Make each paragraph develop one main point, and use clearer references and transitions to show how each example supports your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “cultural events,” “tradition,” “performers,” “emotions,” and “different cultures.” These choices show an attempt to discuss music and its social role, and the examples give the response some specific language. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors or inaccurate word choices make parts difficult to read, such as “belive,” “clutural,” “essy,” and “voive.” Some phrases are also unnatural, for example “pop up music,” “the beauty of music,” and “musicians are well performed.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, such as “pop music,” “performers give strong performances,” and “music transcends language barriers.” This would make your ideas clearer and more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a contrast between younger and older listeners and a sentence explaining that people enjoy a song despite not understanding its words. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to follow. Examples include “Most of the people is,” “the performers are belong,” and “everyone is loved that voice”; these show problems with agreement, verb forms and sentence construction. Articles and plurals are also often missing or inaccurate, as in “music is best way” and “one of the best way.” Punctuation around longer sentences is sometimes unclear. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, checking agreement, articles and verb forms carefully.
