Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent year, role of music in crossing the borders to meet different cultures and ages. While some people believe that music plays a vital role in bringing cultures and people of different ages together across borders. I strongly agree with the statement that music has an impact on causing a relation among cultures and people due to several compelling reasons. This essay will not only elaborate on my viewpoint but also provide relevant examples to support it.
To commence with, one of the most significant reasons is that music can make people from any culture or any age to take interest in the culture of original culture from where that music arises. For instance, I remember when famous singer Shakira sang a song for football world cup played in Africa, people in South Asia liked the music and studied the African culture after that song released. This clearly demonstrates that music crosses the border to reach different cultures.
Another important factor to consider is that music from any corner of the world, if played well can hit the emotions of anyone from any culture or age group. A particular good example of this is the lyric of a poet in Pakistan written and sung by a famous singer against the government at that time were seen to play in recent strikes in India to make people charged and mobilized against government policies. Thus it is evident that, music doesn't know any borders so, this further supports the idea.
In conclusion, although there are different views on role of music from separate cultures, I strongly believe that music can actually make people to get together from different cultures and age groups.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you strongly agree that music can connect people across cultures and age groups. Both body paragraphs offer relevant reasons, and the Shakira example and the Pakistani song used during protests in India help illustrate music’s cross-cultural reach. This gives the response a solid answer to the question. However, the first example mainly shows interest in another culture, rather than clearly demonstrating people being brought together, and the second example’s circumstances and effect are not fully explained. To strengthen the response, develop each example with a clearer link to shared experiences or interaction between different age groups and cultures. The ideas are relevant, but some are less fully supported than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your view. Phrases such as “To commence with,” “Another important factor,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, some linking is mechanical, and the opening repeats the idea of music bringing cultures and ages together before the argument begins. A few references are also unclear: “that music” and “the lyric of a poet” require the reader to infer exactly what is meant, while the long sentence about the Pakistani song makes the example difficult to follow. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each example to its point with clearer referencing and shorter, more controlled sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “crosses the border,” “hit the emotions,” “mobilized,” and “compelling reasons.” These choices show an effort to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary. However, several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “causing a relation,” “the culture of original culture,” and “a particular good example.” Repetition of “culture,” “music,” and “people” also limits flexibility, while “played in recent strikes” does not clearly convey the intended meaning. These word-choice and collocation problems sometimes make the reader work to understand your examples. Aim for natural combinations such as “foster connections,” “learn about the culture of origin,” and “a striking example,” and vary repeated terms where the meaning allows.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession beginning “While some people believe…” and a conditional structure in “if played well.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “In recent year, role of music…” is an incomplete opening sentence, and “make people … to take interest” has an incorrect verb pattern. In “the lyric … were seen to play,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the sentence’s structure makes the relationship between the song and the protests unclear. Articles and plurals also need attention, as in “a particular good example” and “different culture.” Practise complete sentence construction, verb patterns after “make,” and agreement in longer sentences.
