IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that music is a good way of bringing people of different cultures and ages together. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is widespread debate about whether music plays a role in connecting people of different culture and ages. Music is widely listened all over the world irrespective of its language and I strongly agree that it brings people together.
First and the foremost, music has no boundaries. People listen to the music irrespective of its language. Language becomes a secondary thing for people if they enjoy the music and that is why songs of different languages are popular in many countries even if people don't understand that particular language. For example, people enjoy BTS that is a famous Korean music band all over the world even though they don't understand Korean language. Moreover, people also join different music groups about BTS to discuss its member and as a result people of different ages get connected.
Furthermore, many musical events are organised throughout the world such as concert and different kind of festivals where musical artists come to perform. These events are attended by people from different cultural backgrounds. People come to one place to enjoy music regardless of their language, country, culture and age and as a result cross-cultural relationships are build. Although Pakistan and India don't have good relation, people from these countries are still very well connected as they frequently listen to each others music. For instance, Pakistani singer Hassan Raheem and Indian singer Talwindar collaborated for a song and also performed at a concert together.
In conclusion, music has been bringing many nations to one platform for many years and is undoubtedly one of the best ways to bring people together. I firmly believe that music should be promoted as its has the power to bring even those nations together who have a history of bad terms.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I strongly agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both cultural and age differences, supporting your view with relevant examples: the global popularity of BTS and musical collaboration between Pakistani and Indian artists. The discussion explains how shared listening and events can connect people, so the response is more than a list of examples. To strengthen the development further, explain more explicitly how music brings different age groups together; the BTS fan-group example mentions ages but does not show what interaction occurs between generations. Some claims, such as music having “no boundaries,” are also broad and would be more convincing with qualification or a specific explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present distinct reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “First and the foremost,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Within the paragraphs, examples generally follow the claims they support. However, some linking is a little mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “as a result” and “regardless of.” The relationship between the BTS fan groups and people of different ages could also be made clearer, so the reference chain is not fully explicit. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make links between claims and examples more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “cultural backgrounds,” “cross-cultural relationships,” “collaborated,” and “promoted.” These choices help communicate your argument, and the examples are easy to understand. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “music is widely listened all over the world” and “different kind of festivals” are not natural formulations, while “connected” and “bring people together” recur frequently. There are also word-form or spelling issues, such as “each others music.” Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check common collocations—for example, describe music as “widely enjoyed” and events as “concerts and festivals.” This would make the expression more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses with “even though,” “if,” and “although,” and most of the argument remains clear. Some sentences are well controlled, such as “Although Pakistan and India don’t have good relation, people from these countries are still very well connected…” However, some grammatical errors persist. In “people of different culture and ages,” the plural should be “cultures”; “First and the foremost” has an unnecessary article; and “cross-cultural relationships are build” needs the past participle “built.” There are also agreement and article problems in “its has” and “a famous Korean music band.” Review plural forms, articles, and verb forms, then proofread for these recurring patterns.
