Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is contended that some people believes that music is a good way of bringing people of different cultures and ages together. This is a controversial issue because some people are not very comfortable with others. while some believe that its better to stay connected with other people through music. personally, I believe that it is actually a good way of bringing people together. This essay will discuss both perspectives and explain why music is a good way for building connections.

on the one hand, many people believes that people with different cultures and ages would not be comfortable with others. In others words, some people like their own space and does not want others to disturb them and people have distinct prefrences and tastes in music unlike others. For example, yound people will like more of pop music whereas olders will like more of traditional music. As a result, their opinions will differ. Therefore, it is understandable why some people will not support this viewpoint.

on the other hand, others argued that music will connect people from several cultures and ages . This is because people are now mordenising themselves and are keen to explore other people's culture and will tend to like their music taste as well . Another important point is that usage of social media platforms. For instance, people are using instagram worldwide and are staying connected and listening other cultures music and making reels on that which shows the sense of togetherness among them. For these reasons , I believe that music binds the people together.

In conclusion, although some people will disagree to this statement but I strongly agree with this statement as music is an sense of binding asset for people from divergent cultures and ages .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear overall view: you agree that music can bring people together, and you address both supportive and opposing perspectives. The examples about different age groups’ musical preferences and Instagram provide relevant starting points. However, the opposing view is presented mainly as a general claim that people prefer their own space, rather than being explored in relation to how music might fail to unite them. The supporting argument also needs fuller explanation: the Instagram example describes sharing music and making reels, but does not show in detail how this creates connections across cultures and ages. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation or a specific example to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “on the one hand,” “on the other hand,” and “For these reasons” help signal the direction of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the point about people liking their own space is not fully linked to the later example of differing musical tastes. Some linking phrases are also used mechanically, and the conclusion repeats the position without drawing the main reasons together. Improve cohesion by making the relationship between each claim and its example explicit, and use pronouns and transitions carefully so the reader can follow the argument without having to infer connections.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “different cultures,” “traditional music,” “social media platforms,” and “sense of togetherness,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “mordenising themselves,” “listening other cultures music,” and “an sense of binding asset.” Spelling errors, including “prefrences” and “yound,” also reduce accuracy. Some wording is repetitive, particularly “people” and “music,” and “good way” appears more than once. Build a wider set of precise expressions for cultural exchange and connection, and check spelling and natural word combinations when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a contrastive structure beginning “although” and explanations introduced by “This is because.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation. For example, “some people believes” should be “some people believe,” while “people … does not want” should be “people … do not want.” The conclusion’s “although … but” construction is also faulty; use “although” without “but.” Several sentences begin with lowercase letters after full stops, and punctuation around clauses is unreliable. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries, then build longer sentences from accurate simple clauses.
