IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that music is a good way of bringing people of different cultures and ages together. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people believe that individuals of various cultures and ages can be bought together due to music. I personally agree with this opinion that when people spend their time in daily activities, they become more depressed and irritated. So they need something to relax their minds like attending Qawali night or Mehfil-e-Ghazal with peers.
Not ony music but other art related stuff can be a source of happiness among different communities. Some individuals are convinced of the fact that every person has its own taste in music like pop music or classical music according to their taste and it affects their interaction so far. However, music can be a reason of disturbance for thoes community individuals who prefer to meet physically and enjoy face to face communication. Beside this, music with high volumes can be tiresome for some individuals with hearing disabilities.
Personally, I have strong belief that music fosters the human's emotional wellbeing and provides comfort to the inner soul. It provides an opportunity to sit together as a team and enjoys beauty hidden inside each word. During daily life activities, some people just fed up from their hectic routine so of musical event can be relaxing for them. For example, During Mughal Emperor, there were often musical nights where kings, princess and other members of court used to spend some time to relax themselves and appreciate their vibrant culture.
At last, I just want to narrate that music can be a reason of unity, intergrity and pleasure for thoes who are fond of it. But again it depends on the taste of individuals sense how far it affects their mood.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is generally clear: you agree that music can bring people together, and you give relevant examples such as Qawali nights, Mehfil-e-Ghazal, and historical musical gatherings. You also acknowledge that people have different tastes and that loud music may not suit everyone, which adds some balance. However, the response only partly develops the central claim. The opening focuses on stress relief rather than explaining how music connects people across cultures and ages, and the Mughal example is not clearly linked to those groups coming together. Develop one or two direct explanations—for example, shared performances or familiar songs across generations—and show how they support your view.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable paragraph structure, moving from your position to counterpoints, personal views, and a conclusion. Some linking expressions, including “However,” “Beside this,” and “For example,” help signal relationships between ideas. Nevertheless, progression is uneven: the second paragraph shifts from shared cultural experiences to individual taste and then to hearing difficulties without clearly connecting these points to the main argument. The final paragraph repeats the idea that music creates unity rather than drawing together the reasons already given. Some transitions are also awkward or unclear, such as “At last” and “But again.” Organise each body paragraph around one main reason and use clearer references to connect examples to that reason.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “emotional wellbeing,” “hectic routine,” “face to face communication,” and “vibrant culture.” These choices show an effort to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary. However, word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear: “bought together” appears where “brought together” is intended, while “thoes,” “intergrity,” and “ony” are misspelled. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “a reason of disturbance,” “inner soul,” and “enjoys beauty hidden inside each word.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise language for shared musical experiences would also help you explain the task’s cultural and generational focus.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a clause beginning “when people spend their time in daily activities” and a contrast introduced by “However.” This gives the response some structural variety, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “every person has its own taste” has an agreement and pronoun problem, while “some people just fed up” is missing a verb. In “it provides an opportunity to sit together as a team and enjoys,” the verb forms do not match. There are also sentence-boundary and punctuation problems, particularly where sentences run together. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, complete verb phrases, and parallel forms, then proofread each sentence for punctuation.
