Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response gives a clear opinion that music can connect people across cultures and ages, particularly in “it is indeed a good way to connect people.” However, it does not develop this position or adequately address both groups in the question. The brief mention of different musical genres is relevant, but no explanation shows how shared listening or musical events bring people together, and there are no supporting examples. The response also ends before presenting a developed argument or conclusion. The stated minimum length is not met, which leaves the task substantially incomplete. To strengthen the response, explain how music crosses language or age differences, support each point with a specific example, and finish with a clear concluding statement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the opening introduces the topic and opinion, and the next paragraph begins to describe music and its genres. Linking expressions such as “Although” and “furthermore” also show an effort to connect ideas. However, the progression is limited: the second paragraph lists genres without linking them to the central argument, and the response stops before developing or concluding its ideas. Some connections are awkward, especially “Although, language can be a barrier, however,” where two contrasting linkers are combined. Use a clearer paragraph plan—position, developed reasons with examples, and conclusion—and choose linking devices that express each relationship accurately.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “cultures,” “genres,” “classical music,” and “pop songs,” so the reader can identify the subject. It also attempts phrases such as “connect people beyond cultures and ages.” However, the range is narrow and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “peach” appears to be an incorrect word in the list of musical features, while “expound my viewpoints furthermore” sounds overly formal and does not add precision. “A good option” is also vague for an argument about music’s social role. Aim for more precise expressions such as “bridge cultural differences,” “shared musical experiences,” and “rhythm and melody,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple sentences and a more complex contrast, as in “Although, language can be a barrier, however, in my opinion…”. The main meaning is generally understandable, but punctuation and sentence construction are not consistently controlled. In that example, “although” and “however” duplicate the contrast, and the commas interrupt the sentence. There are also inconsistent sentence openings and punctuation in “some people love classical music, another loves to listen pop songs or hip-hops,” which combines clauses awkwardly and has a subject–verb agreement problem (“people” versus “another”). Practise forming one complete contrast clause at a time, and check agreement, articles, and punctuation when joining examples.
