Student answer (Band 6.0)

Music has always been a part of our culture from the ancient times. Every country, state, city have different kind of cultures due to which they also have different music. I agree that music is a good way of bringing people of different cultures and ages together as people start to bond with each other.

India is a very diverse country, due to which people have their own music taste. Music has always been a part in the indian culture from the beginning. It is a crucial factor of bringing people from all age groups together during festivals, cultural programmes, live events and social gatherings. For instance, while Ganesh Chathurti, people from all over the country visit mumbai for ganesh visarjan. During visarjan, people of all age groups dance on their way to beach. Here inspite of the language barrier as most of the songs are in the local language (marathi), people still come and enjoy and be a part of the celebration.

Music also plays a significant role not only nationally but also globally. For instance, music concerts. People from all over the world attend concerts to enjoy the music of their favourate artist, regardless of their culture and age.

While some people believe that music does not play any significant role in uniting people. They say that, there are other good ways of bringing people together other that music like art activities, games, plays, etc. When people get involved in art activities they communicate and get involved with each other, whereas music on the other hand may cause problems as some people do not like to listen a certain kind of music. For instance, young people like to listen to pop, rap, and more fast paced songs, while the older people may prefer slow, calming music.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that music plays a signifiacnt role in bringing people together of different cultures and ages and enjoy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you agree that music can unite people across cultures and ages. The examples are relevant and help address both groups, particularly the Ganesh visarjan celebration, where people enjoy music despite a language barrier, and international concerts. You also acknowledge a counterargument about other activities and differing musical preferences, which adds balance. This meets the task well, but development is uneven: the festival example is explained, while the concert point is asserted more briefly, and the opposing view is not fully connected to why music can still bring people together. To strengthen the response, explain more precisely how shared listening or participation overcomes differences in taste.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting your view, a counterargument, and a conclusion. The progression from a local festival to international concerts is logical, and phrases such as “For instance” help signal examples. However, some links feel mechanical or unclear. The paragraph beginning “While some people believe” shifts to the opposing view without clearly showing how it relates to your own position, and “Whereas music on the other hand” creates a confusing contrast. The conclusion also compresses several ideas into one sentence. Use clearer topic sentences and refer back explicitly to your central claim so that the relationship between each example and your argument is consistently easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “language barrier,” “cultural programmes,” “social gatherings,” and “significant role,” which helps communicate your ideas. There is also an attempt to vary wording through phrases such as “bringing people together” and “bond with each other.” However, the range is not consistently precise, and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce control: “favourate,” “signifiacnt,” and “fast paced” should be corrected, while “music taste” and “dance on their way” are awkward in context. Repetition of “people,” “music,” and “bringing together” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate collocations and a few precise alternatives, such as “musical preferences” and “participate in the celebration.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “as most of the songs are in the local language” and a contrast between younger and older listeners. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Every country, state, city have” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “people still come and enjoy and be a part” has an awkwardly coordinated verb structure. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “Music has always been a part in the Indian culture” and “While some people believe…” when used as a standalone sentence. Review agreement, article use, and complete sentence formation, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
