Student answer (Band 5.5)

Music acts as an inter-connection between different humans , places and various community. Music is the language of heart which helps the people to feel fresh , energetic ,therapeutic. There are different types of Music that helps heal the soul i.e band and soft music. Music is an important part of human life, and many people believe that it can bring people of different cultures and ages together. I strongly agree with this opinion because music is a universal language that helps people understand each other and creates opportunities for people to share their experiences.

Firstly, music can connect people from different cultural backgrounds, even when they do not speak the same language. People can enjoy the rhythm, melody and emotions of a song without understanding its lyrics. For example, international music reconnects various people to enjoy different culture and promote friendship and get closer to understand different people's perspective

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

Your position is clear: “I strongly agree,” and you give a relevant reason that music can connect people who do not share a language. The example of enjoying a song’s rhythm and emotion without understanding its lyrics supports this point. However, the response addresses the question only partially: it says little about how music brings different age groups together, and the cultural example (“international music”) is not specific or fully explained. The opening comments about music making people feel “fresh” and “energetic” are only loosely connected to the task. The response is also 100 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to develop both parts of the argument. Add a developed example and explain the role of music across generations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your view, followed by a paragraph beginning “Firstly” that develops one reason. This gives the reader a basic route through the argument, and the link between shared musical enjoyment and cultural connection is understandable. However, the progression is limited because the response ends before developing a second point, particularly the connection between age groups. Some ideas in the opening repeat the general claim that music is important, while the final example is left as an unfinished thought. Use separate body paragraphs for cultural and generational connections, and link each example explicitly to your position. This would create clearer progression rather than relying mainly on “Firstly.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “cultural backgrounds,” “rhythm,” “melody,” “emotions,” and “lyrics.” These terms help explain how music can be enjoyed across language barriers. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “universal language” and “therapeutic,” but several choices are inaccurate or awkward: “inter-connection” is not natural here, and “international music reconnects various people” does not clearly express your meaning. “Different culture” also needs a more suitable form and phrasing. Aim for precise collocations and avoid using elevated words unless they fit the sentence. For example, describe music as “bringing people together” and say that it “encourages cross-cultural understanding.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and a complex sentence, such as “People can enjoy the rhythm, melody and emotions of a song without understanding its lyrics.” This shows some ability to vary sentence structure, and your main meaning is generally clear. However, errors in agreement, articles, plurals and punctuation remain noticeable. For example, “various community” needs a plural form, and “There are different types of Music that helps” has a mismatch between the plural subject and verb. Commas are also separated from the preceding word in several places, and the final example lacks a full stop. Check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries, and proofread punctuation. More accurate control of these patterns would make your ideas easier to follow.
