Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often claimed that music unites people of various cultures and ages together, and i agree to this statement. People from many communities sometimes become a fan of a particular artist or singer of another region. Additionally, it breaks the barrier or border between some nationals, and get to know and feel motivated from a different culture by music.

Firstly, there are a lot of musicians who contributed to create arts for various regions of the world. Besides, people from these different regions have found emotion and soothing feeling from those creations. Surprisingly, language couldn't create any barrier between these fans and creators. For instance, Arijit Singh is a musician from India, who loves to sing, compose songs, and successfully made a huge fanbase from other south asian countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Nepal, which is a great example of this statement.

Secondly, existence of some muscians in social media or content creation platform unite people from all ages in comment box, also motivate people from different ages. For instance, "Imagine Dragons" is a living example of this. Their creations made people motivated, strong, and united. There are people from all over the world follow them, watch their music videos, and feel connected and motivated by other regions of the world.

In conclusion, Music is great medium of unity, connection, and motivation for all cultures and ages of people. Residents of many countries often follow the same artist, and listen to their songs regularly, which provides an idea about the culture, and helps to get connected worldwide. There is a popular term that 'music knows no barrier', and i think it is true.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that music brings people of different cultures and ages together, and the conclusion reinforces this view. Both groups in the prompt are addressed, with relevant examples: Arijit Singh’s following in neighbouring countries illustrates cross-cultural appeal, while Imagine Dragons’ online audience supports the point about connection across ages. These examples make the response relevant, but the explanation is sometimes broad. For instance, the claim that music motivates people of different ages is asserted rather than illustrated with a specific situation or explanation of how this connection happens. To strengthen the response, develop each example further and explain more precisely how shared listening leads to cultural understanding or interaction.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion. The ideas generally progress from music connecting cultures to its appeal across age groups, and the examples are placed in relevant paragraphs. However, some links between claims are abrupt or unclear. In the first paragraph, “Additionally, it breaks the barrier or border” does not specify what “it” refers to, and the second body paragraph moves quickly from social-media comments to motivation without explaining the connection. The conclusion also repeats several points from the introduction. Use clearer referencing and add linking explanations between each claim and its example to make the progression more flexible and less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “unites,” “barrier,” “fanbase,” “soothing feeling,” and “feel connected.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural word combinations, such as “become a fan of a particular artist,” “found emotion,” and “existence of some musicians in social media.” Spelling and form errors such as “muscians” and “south asian” also reduce precision. Aim for more natural collocations and precise phrasing, for example, describe listeners as “drawn to” an artist and say that music “evokes emotions.” This would make the vocabulary more fluent and appropriate to an academic response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including relative clauses such as “Arijit Singh is a musician from India, who…” and a concluding clause beginning “which provides an idea…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “people … become a fan” has a subject–number mismatch, and “people … follow them” needs a relative pronoun or a different sentence structure. In “and get to know and feel motivated,” the verb form does not fit smoothly with the preceding clause. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in lowercase “i” and the comma before “which” after “Nepal.” Review agreement, clause construction, and sentence boundaries to improve accuracy while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
