Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is undeniable that music is a excellent way of bringing people of different ages and cultures together. In this regard, I agree with this opinion to a great extent and this essay will discuss the given perspectives with a relevlant conclusion in upcoming paragraphs.
To commence with, music can help in connecting people in several ways. The prime one is that it helps in bridging age gaps, as people of all ages have similarities in their tastes in music. To explain it, music is a leisure enjoyed by everyone, irrespective of their age, ethnicity, race or culture. For example, popular tracks or national anthems incite a sense of collective identity in individuals of various ages and cultures. Secondly, shared events and concerts can bring different cultures and traditions together, by providing the opportunity to know more about one another's traditions and customs. To elaborate it, people of various age groupos and cultures tend to enjoy same kinds of musical concerts and orchestras, this helps in providing incentive to build meaningful connections. Moreover, music provides a collective sense of human emotions, that are common to everyone.
However, connecting people this way comes with a few disadvantages. The first and foremost is the language and social barrier, it is incredibly difficult to interact with other cultures without knowing their native language, which can lead to awkwardness in conversations. Apart from this, there remains the issue of generational divide in taste in music, as older generations prefer listening to old classical music, in contrast, younger generations prefer latest music genres like hip-hop. In addition, religious boundaries affect the ability of contrasting cultures to maintain bonds with each other. Nevertheless, my stance primarily stands with the former opinion, sounds can technically break all human boundaries and substantially help in connecting different populations irrespective of their culture or age.
In conclusion, although there may be a few disadvantages, different kinds of music can definitely help in social interaction between various generations and cultures.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I agree with this opinion to a great extent”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both age and cultural differences, giving relevant support through shared concerts, national anthems and common emotions. The discussion of possible barriers also shows awareness of complexity. However, some support is broad rather than fully explained: for instance, the claim that people of all ages share musical tastes is not always true, and the language and religious barriers are mentioned without a specific example or explanation of how music might overcome them. Develop these points with a concrete situation and clarify that music can create connection even when conversation is limited. This would make the supporting ideas more fully developed and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining benefits, a paragraph considering limitations, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposts such as “To commence with,” “Secondly,” “However” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The central position is also maintained across the essay. At times, though, the linking language feels formulaic, and some sentences connect ideas without making their relationship precise. For example, the discussion moves from concerts to shared emotions with “Moreover,” but the link between these points could be explained. The long sentence beginning “Apart from this” also combines several contrasts. Use fewer stock transitions and make links between claims explicit; this would make the progression more flexible and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You show a useful range of vocabulary for the topic, including “bridging age gaps,” “collective identity,” “generational divide” and “religious boundaries.” These choices help express the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear. There is also an attempt to use more formal language, although some phrases are unnatural or imprecise: “discuss the given perspectives,” “providing incentive to build meaningful connections” and “my stance primarily stands with the former opinion” do not sound idiomatic in context. Spelling slips such as “relevlant” and “groupos” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations rather than adding formal-sounding wording; for example, say that concerts “create opportunities for people to learn about one another’s traditions.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including subordinate clauses with “as,” “which” and “although,” and most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. The opening and conclusion are grammatically straightforward, while the body includes longer sentences that show some range. However, errors in articles, agreement and sentence construction remain. For example, “a excellent way” needs the correct article, and “people … tend to enjoy same kinds” needs an article before “same kinds.” In “people of various age groups and cultures tend to enjoy …, this helps,” a comma joins two independent clauses; use a full stop or a conjunction. The sentence contrasting older and younger preferences also needs clearer punctuation and structure. Proofread these patterns and vary complex sentences while keeping clause relationships controlled.
