Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that music can connect people across cultures and ages, and you give two relevant reasons—learning about cultural values and encountering other languages. The examples about listening to English music and learning about other societies help keep the response on topic. However, the ideas are often asserted rather than explained. For instance, the first body paragraph repeats that music brings age groups and societies together without showing how people interact or what makes music a shared experience. The language-learning example supports cultural exposure more clearly than it supports bringing different ages together. Develop each reason with a specific situation and explain its connection to both parts of the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To commence with,” “Another compelling reason,” and “To recapitulate” make the stages easy to identify, and the reader can follow your overall agreement. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with repeated claims rather than a clear development from reason to explanation to example. The first paragraph, for example, returns several times to music bringing societies and age groups together. Some links are also unclear, particularly the move from learning English to improving skills “among different cultures.” Use fewer formulaic transitions and make each sentence build directly on the previous one, with clearer references to the people or ideas being discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “cultural activity,” “values and norms,” “language skills,” and “speaking practice.” These choices show an attempt to discuss culture and learning rather than relying only on very basic terms. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “a better way” and “various.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “socities,” “diffrent,” and “pathway for know,” which make some expressions awkward or less clear. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated wording; for example, explain whether music exposes listeners to traditions, encourages shared participation, or helps them recognise cultural differences.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, using structures such as “To be more precise” and “To elaborate further on this point.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but control of sentence structure and basic grammar is inconsistent. Examples include “individual are giving,” “listening song may be enhance,” and “music is good way,” where agreement, verb forms, or articles are missing or incorrect. Some sentences also combine several ideas without a secure grammatical structure, as in the example about people listening to music and improving their knowledge. Practise forming accurate subject–verb patterns and using infinitives after phrases such as “a way to.” Then check articles, plural forms, and sentence boundaries during revision.
