Student answer (Band 5.5)
Certain individuals say that music is a good way of bringing people of various heritages and ages together. Now, to some extent i agree to this statement since, social media exposes individuals to music on a daily basis making it much easier to listen and talk about it.
To begin, music is something that can be listened at any time like when alone, with family or friends. On top of that individuals from different cultures who have similar taste in music can easily start conversations regarding them helping them develop a much deeper understanding of each others characters. Also attending music festivals and events that attract international audenices also encourages people to meet and greet with new individuals from various different backgrounds.
Moreover, people from different age groups can also be brought together using music as older people tend to listen to older or aged songs which they can recommend to younger individuals of their families helping them find old songs that they might not have listen to helping them bond over these recommendations as they would be sharing each others opinions regarding songs, and young ones could introduce them to newer songs. As a result, both generations can learn from each other and bond.
However, music could also distance people if one person deems the other music taste a bit offensive, most of the time these songs tend to be either patriotic, racial or abusive. For instance, if a person were to play an american patriotic song infront of an iranian or even a japanese person they will quite offended by the other person.
In conclusion, yes music can be a good way of bringing people closer as it is a much common form of interest and topic to talk about, however only if the other person doesn't feels offended by it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree to some extent, and you address both cultural and age-related connections as well as a possible drawback. The examples about music festivals, family members sharing older songs, and introducing newer music are relevant to the question. However, the cultural point about similar musical tastes is only briefly explained, and the final example about patriotic songs is quite specific and does not fully establish how music generally creates distance between cultures. Develop these ideas with clearer explanation and a more balanced example, and make your degree of agreement more explicit in the conclusion. The response covers the task, but some ideas are less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs on cultural and generational connections, a counterpoint, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “To begin,” “Moreover,” and “However” help signal the stages of the argument. However, some links feel mechanical, and several sentences carry too many ideas at once, particularly the long sentence about older and younger family members sharing songs. References such as “regarding them” are not immediately clear, and the conclusion repeats the main claim without drawing the points together. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise referencing, and connect each example explicitly to the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “heritages,” “music festivals,” “generations,” and “bond,” which allows you to discuss both cultural and age differences. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “patriotic” and “international audiences.” However, some choices and combinations are awkward or imprecise: “aged songs,” “regarding them,” and “a much common form” do not sound natural in context. Spelling and capitalisation slips, including “audenices” and “american,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “as,” “which,” and “if,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some sentences are controlled, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation remain. For example, “music is something that can be listened at any time” needs a different grammatical construction, while “the other person doesn't feels offended” has an incorrect verb form. The long sentence beginning “Moreover, people from different age groups” also becomes difficult to manage and contains several clause-level problems. Practise accurate passive and conditional forms, and divide long sentences so that each clause is grammatically complete.
