Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You address both sides of the question: music can connect people through concerts and shared listening, while differences in age and culture can lead to different preferences. The examples of grandparents and grandchildren, and young people enjoying rap while older people prefer folk music, are relevant. However, your position is not consistently clear: the opening suggests agreement, but the conclusion says music does not bring everyone together. The ideas are also brief and only partly explained, so the response addresses the task partially rather than developing a clear, supported argument. The response is below the required 250 words, which limits how fully you can explain your reasons and examples. State your degree of agreement clearly and expand each main point with explanation and a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic overall structure, with an opening, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the body paragraphs broadly separate the benefits of music from differences in musical taste. You also attempt linking expressions such as “as a result,” “for example” and “while.” However, progression within sentences is often difficult to follow, and several ideas are joined together without clear boundaries. The second paragraph’s opening, “It is true that, they have cultural differences,” does not clearly connect to the previous point, while the conclusion introduces an unclear final claim. Some connectors are used mechanically or inaccurately. Use one main idea per sentence, make the relationship between ideas explicit, and ensure the conclusion follows directly from the position established in the introduction.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “cultures,” “concerts,” “generation gap,” “modern music” and “folk music,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and many spelling errors or inaccurate word choices make the message harder to understand, as in “fertives,” “fasitover song” and “pearson music.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “share sound from their cultures” and “people attend music concerts.” These issues mean the reader sometimes has to infer your intended meaning. Build a bank of accurate phrases for discussing music and social connection, and check spelling and collocations carefully. For example, “share music from their cultures” and “attend music festivals” would express your ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast with “while” and a result clause beginning “as a result.” This shows some effort to connect ideas grammatically. However, sentence structures are often incomplete or inaccurately formed, and errors in articles, agreement, verb forms and punctuation frequently interrupt the message. For instance, “Music connects people from different cultures and All ade enjoys a music” has problems with capitalization, subject–verb agreement and article use; “Grandparents and Grandchildren can bond by listening their…” also lacks the required preposition after “listening.” Commas and full stops are often missing, creating run-on sentences. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with one controlled complex structure at a time.
