Student answer (Band 6.0)

Listening to music plays a significant role in shaping life of individuals. It is highly debated that music has a potential to bring people together from different culture and varying age groups. I partially agree with this opinion. Although, music can play dramatic role to bring people together, but there are other factors as well that can play remarkable role here.

Proponents of music as an effective way of bringing individuals closer argue that everyone in life like music at some point. People may have variable taste in music, some listen to it frequently and other may pay attention accasionally. For instance, individuals may listen to music when they are sad or want motivation. Other may like sufism genre occasionally. Some may prefer to listen during routine work. This significance of music in people's life can be utilized to make people come closer by arranging for instance, a concert of famous band that people from different parts of world like. This will allow them to come together at one place and different types of people to explore cultural heritages and observe their societal norms. Similarly, music teachers can also play significant role in arranging workshops either physical or online for people from different regions to join.

I would argue that there are other factors as well that can play key role in bringing people together. For instance, different types of gaming tournaments can play remarkable role to bring people from different part of world to come together at one place. There are some games for example, Football and cricket tournaments that pulls large number of poeple from different countries at one place. Similarly, Art galleries and tourism can give effective results if managed with wise policies. Considering music only as a good way for bringing poeple together will be partially correct as there are other major plays as well.

In conclusion, music as significance to extent in everyone's life and this could be utilized to make music lovers of different cultures to come together. But, there are other players as well that can do this job efficiently.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partially agree that music can unite people, while arguing that other activities can do so too. You address both sides with relevant examples, including concerts, music workshops, sports tournaments, art galleries and tourism. The discussion of concerts and workshops explains how people from different places might meet and encounter other cultures. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that everyone likes music “at some point” is broad, and the sports examples do not show as clearly how they bring people of different ages together. Develop the comparison by explaining why music is especially effective, or where its limits lie, and connect examples more directly to both culture and age.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting music, a paragraph presenting other ways to unite people, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress in a logical order, and linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Similarly” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, the repeated use of “Similarly” and “For instance” can make the links feel formulaic, while some references are unclear: “this job” in the conclusion does not specify exactly what the other activities can do. The transition from music to alternative activities could also explain the relationship between the two arguments more explicitly. Use more varied, precise links and ensure each paragraph develops one central point.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “cultural heritages,” “societal norms,” “motivation” and “tournaments.” There are also attempts at less common or formal expressions, such as “significant role” and “remarkable role,” though these are sometimes repeated or do not fit naturally. Several word-choice and spelling issues reduce precision, including “different culture,” “accasionally,” “poeple,” and “other players” for other means or activities. Phrases such as “music has a potential” and “music as significance” are also awkwardly formed. Aim for accurate collocations and vary repeated terms: for example, use “bring people together,” “foster connections” and “create opportunities for interaction” where appropriate. Proofreading would catch spelling slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “Although music can play…” and conditional phrasing such as “if managed with wise policies.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in articles, agreement, plurals and sentence construction. For example, “shaping life of individuals” needs an article or plural form, “everyone … like music” has subject–verb disagreement, and “tournaments that pulls” should use a plural verb. The opening sentence of the first body paragraph also contains a comma splice in “People may have variable taste in music, some listen…”. Avoid combining contrasting conjunctions in “Although …, but …”; choose one. More careful editing of these patterns, alongside continued use of varied sentence structures, would improve accuracy.
