Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You take a clear position in favour of the opinion, stating that music can bring people together across cultures and ages. The comparison between people who enjoy the same old songs and the idea that age does not matter is relevant to the question. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: the reasons are brief and difficult to follow, and there is no specific example or developed explanation showing how music connects people from different cultures. The required minimum of 250 words is not met; the response contains 110 words. To strengthen the answer, explain two distinct reasons, support each with a concrete example, and develop your position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to connect ideas, using phrases such as “because,” “so,” and “in addition.” The response also moves from shared musical preferences to age and cultural differences, which gives it a loose connection to the question. However, it is presented as one long, largely unpunctuated sequence, so the relationships between points are often unclear. For example, the shift from friendship based on similar ideas to people from different cultures is not clearly explained. Organise the response into an introduction, separate body paragraphs for your reasons, and a conclusion. Use linking expressions to show the precise relationship between ideas, rather than joining many points in one sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant basic vocabulary, including “culture,” “ages,” “friendship,” “song,” and “choice,” so the general topic is recognisable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, such as “good way” and “good friend.” There are also spelling errors and unclear word choices, including “old dong” and “blongs,” which make parts of the message difficult to understand. Aim to use more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe music as a “shared interest” that “bridges cultural differences,” then explain how a particular song or musical event brings people together.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to express reasons and relationships, for example with “because” and “if,” but most of the writing relies on a single extended sentence rather than a controlled range of sentence forms. Errors in sentence construction and punctuation frequently make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “The music is good way to bringing people” and “this point is apply on the song also”; these need more accurate article use, verb forms, and sentence structure. Break the ideas into shorter complete sentences, and practise forming clear clauses such as “Music brings people together because they can share songs they enjoy.” Check subject–verb agreement and use full stops to separate each point.
