Student answer (Band 5.5)

Music is an element wich have its different forms but feelings of it are same due to which some people believes that music can be efficiently used in the way of bringing people of seperate cultures and ages together. I partially agree with this statement.

To begin with, it is important to understand what is music. It is a source in which a singer try to relate with different aspects of live like it can about love, friendship, relationship, heartbreak and many other which can easly connected by people of different genders, culture and ages simply because every human have feelings. Music also help people to get in touch with each other simply because of the preferance or taste of their music. Moreover many music or songs have different frequency and deep meanings which makes it more popular in different age groups and unite them. For instance a test was conducted in USA where they compare the two groups of people one with who dont listen music and one who listen music daily. Then they give tasks to them and group who listen songs have more coordination in doing task as compared to different group.

In the cons of this statement, music is not for everyone as sometimes because of language barriers which makes hard for listeners to understant it. However it also depends on persons taste of music, some like peaceful and soft music on other hand some people like heavy metal and bass music which can aslo make descrimination between them.

In the conclusion, music and bring people together but upto some extent and many problems can be faced by them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear, though qualified, position by saying, “I partially agree,” and you discuss both how music can connect people and how differences in language and taste may divide them. The examples about shared feelings and musical preferences are relevant to the question. However, the main ideas are only partly developed: the claim that songs unite age groups is not illustrated with a specific example, and the reported USA test is vague and does not clearly show how music brings different cultures or ages together. The conclusion also repeats your position without explaining the extent of your agreement. Develop one or two points with concrete examples and make your overall judgement more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting music’s unifying role, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “In the conclusion” help signal this organisation. The progression is generally understandable, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “In the cons of this statement” is an awkward transition, and the USA study is introduced without a clear link to the preceding point about shared feelings. The final sentence is also too compressed to summarise the argument effectively. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the claim it supports; vary transitions and make references between ideas more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “language barriers,” “frequency,” “coordination,” and “heavy metal,” and you attempt to express abstract ideas such as shared feelings and musical preferences. However, the range is limited in places, and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make the meaning less natural, as in “the preferance or taste of their music,” “make descrimination,” and “music and bring people together.” Spelling errors such as “wich,” “seperate,” and “understant” are also noticeable. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and word forms. For instance, describe music as a “shared cultural experience” or say that differing tastes may “create divisions,” rather than relying on broad or inaccurate phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “a source in which a singer try to relate” and a contrast introduced by “However.” These attempts show some range, but errors are frequent and sometimes make sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “music is an element wich have,” “every human have feelings,” and “a test was conducted … where they compare,” which contain problems with agreement and verb forms. The sentence beginning “For instance” also has an unclear structure, while the conclusion, “music and bring people together,” is grammatically incomplete. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, past-tense consistency, and complete sentence construction before adding more complex clauses.
