Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of both maps and makes relevant comparisons. You successfully identified the key changes, such as the removal of the stage and rose gardens in favor of an amphitheater and cafe. However, the description of the 1920 layout is slightly cluttered and lacks a clear overview statement. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a clear summary of the most significant trends or changes in an introductory paragraph. While you mention the locations, the spatial descriptions could be more precise to help the reader visualize the layout more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into two distinct paragraphs, which is appropriate for this task. However, the flow within the paragraphs is somewhat mechanical. You rely heavily on simple conjunctions and lack a variety of cohesive devices to link ideas smoothly. For example, the transition between the 1920 description and the current layout could be improved with a clearer topic sentence. Additionally, some referencing is slightly confusing, such as the mention of 'the four seats' without clearly establishing their relationship to the previous layout. Using more varied linking words would improve the logical progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the features of the park, such as 'amphitheatre', 'fountain', and 'glasshouse'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'built Cafe' (should be 'a cafe was built') and 'sited beside it'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more varied verbs for describing changes, such as 'transformed', 'replaced', or 'converted', rather than repeating 'removed' or 'built'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the Grange park has', 'there are three Rose garden'), missing articles ('at the center', 'at the right hand side'), and tense inconsistencies. Some sentences are run-on, such as the opening sentence, which lacks proper punctuation. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
