Student answer (Band 6.0)
This image gives us information about a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.
At the top we can see an old image from 1920, at that time entrance was in the middle and when we entered in park, firstly we saw a huge size fountain ine the middle and on the left side there was a stage facility for musicians.
There was many rose garden in the park but one is just infront of stage and there was also seating arrangements almost at every side of the park. At the right corner of the park there is a huge pond for water plants.
Almost after a hundered years here we saw many changes in the park now we saw an Amphitheatre for concerts in the past there was a small stage facility for musicians. And now seating arrangements are only in the middle of the park where in the past there was a fountain. Now they also made an underground parking facility. And now they also made a childrens play area where in the past there was a small pond for the water plants.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the park in 1920 and the current day, identifying key changes such as the amphitheatre, parking, and play area. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary paragraph, which is essential for Task 1. The description is somewhat repetitive and relies on a chronological list rather than a comparative analysis. To improve, you should group features logically (e.g., structures vs. green spaces) and include a clear introductory summary that highlights the most significant transformations, such as the shift from a nature-focused park to a more facility-oriented recreational space.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by a lack of cohesive devices. You rely heavily on 'and' and 'now' to connect ideas, which makes the writing feel mechanical. There is a lack of transition words to signal comparisons or contrasts (e.g., 'in contrast,' 'whereas,' 'subsequently'). Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, as sentences are often just listed one after another without clear thematic grouping. Improving the use of linking words and referencing would significantly enhance the clarity of your report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You use phrases like 'huge size' and 'there was' repeatedly. While you successfully identify features like 'amphitheatre' and 'underground parking facility,' the range of vocabulary is limited. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise descriptive language and synonyms to avoid repetition. For example, instead of saying 'there was,' use verbs like 'featured,' 'contained,' or 'was replaced by.' Expanding your range of collocations related to map descriptions will help you express changes more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'There was many rose garden'), missing articles (e.g., 'in park'), and incorrect preposition usage. Sentence structure is often fragmented or run-on. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on basic accuracy, such as pluralisation and article usage, as well as varying your sentence structure, will help improve your score in this criterion.
