Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the park in 1920 and today, identifying key changes such as the replacement of the stage with an amphitheatre and the addition of a cafe. However, the description is somewhat confusing and lacks a clear overview of the most significant transformations. The reporting of spatial information is often imprecise, making it difficult for the reader to follow the layout changes. While the task is addressed, the lack of clarity in comparing the two maps prevents a higher score. To improve, focus on grouping features logically (e.g., northern vs. southern sections) and ensuring the overview highlights the most striking differences rather than just listing details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response uses some cohesive devices like 'To commence with' and 'Moreover', but these are often used mechanically or inappropriately. The paragraphing is weak; the body paragraph is overly long and dense, making it difficult to navigate the information. The progression of ideas is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and unclear referencing, such as 'in the right side of northen rose garden', which makes the spatial relationships hard to follow. Improving the use of paragraphing to separate distinct areas of the park and using a wider variety of linking words would significantly enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'changes', 'side', and 'located'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'glasshouse is stabled' and 'renovated the park changed in the rose garden'. These errors occasionally cause the reader to pause to decipher the intended meaning. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to maps and urban planning, such as 'transformed', 'converted', 'situated', or 'replaced', and ensure that these terms are used in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect preposition usage ('in the right side of'), missing articles, and tense inconsistencies. For example, 'in the mid area of park fountain and stage... were built' lacks necessary articles. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation limits the clarity of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would help improve the accuracy of your sentences.
