The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The illustration compares the plans of a public park established in 1920 with how it stands today, showcasing the modifications done to it.

The most prominent feature of the park in 1920 was the central fountain, which has been replaced with a rose garden and seats along its perimeter. However, the entrance gates still stands in the same direction as it did in the 1920, which is along the Arnold Avenue and Eldon Street. Another eye-catching modification is the establishment of the Amphitheatre in the western part of the park, which earlier had a stage for musical performances.

The western part of the park in 1920 had a rose garden, a pond for water plants and a glasshouse along with a few seats. None of these constructions stands today and have been replaced with a cafe, children's play area and a water feature, respectively. An additional entrance for the underground car parking area has also been constructed.

Overall, the alterations observed in the park aligns with the change of interests of the people. Such new establishments proves to be more appealing to the younger population.
