Student answer (Band 7.0)
The diagram illustrates how the layout of a public park has changed from 1920 to present day.
Overall, compared to 1920, the park has undergone major changes and more facilities have been added making park more modernised.
To begin with, although on the maps entrance did not changed, in 1920 after entering, a large water fountain was established, however in modern days there is rose garden with seating arrangement surrounding it. In 1920, after the entrance's left side glasshouse was present, while today there is water feature is constructed. It was clear that in Grange park rose garden was divided in three parts during 1920 but today there are two areas. Nowadays, the area occupies children's play area was used as a pond for water plants.
Moreover, before seats were available in all sides of park but after the redevelopment the seat area was only around centre of rose garden. Additionally, in past there was stage for musicians in west direction, which is now converted to Amphitheatre for concerts. Between the North entrance and play area cafe is situated. To deal with car parking issue modernised park has build a underground car parking near the water feature from eastern side.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response covers all key features of the maps, including the fountain, rose garden, glasshouse, and the addition of the amphitheatre and underground car park. The overview is clear and highlights the main trend of modernisation. However, the report could be improved by grouping features more logically (e.g., permanent structures vs. changing landscape) rather than listing them sequentially. While the main features are identified, some descriptions lack precision, such as the vague reference to 'three parts' versus 'two areas' in the rose garden, which could be better explained. Overall, the task is well-addressed with a clear summary of the changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organised into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'the area occupies children's play area', which is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the park's evolution. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'redevelopment', 'modernised', and 'amphitheatre' used correctly. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'modern days' instead of 'the present day' and 'seat area' instead of 'seating'. Some collocations are also slightly unnatural, such as 'build a underground car parking'. While the range is sufficient to convey the main points, the lack of more sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of minor errors in word formation prevent a higher score. Expanding the range of descriptive verbs and nouns would enhance the quality of the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'entrance did not changed' (tense error), 'there is water feature is constructed' (double verb/passive voice error), and 'the area occupies children's play area' (missing preposition/relative clause). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent. The student demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but control is inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage in descriptions of change, and the proper use of articles and prepositions.
