Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a clear overview of the changes between 1920 and the present day. You have successfully identified the key features, such as the removal of the glasshouse, the addition of the water feature, and the transformation of the stage into an amphitheatre. However, the report is slightly hindered by some inaccuracies in detail; for instance, you mention the rose gardens were removed except for one, but the map shows two remaining. Additionally, the description of the new underground car park entrance is a good observation, but the overall summary could be more precise in its spatial descriptions to ensure the reader can clearly visualise the layout changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organised into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on different areas of the park. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In 1920' and 'In today' (though 'In today' is grammatically incorrect), to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Which has been besides, Arnold avenue,' which is a sentence fragment. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are complete would help the progression of ideas feel more natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'demolished', 'introduced', 'converted', and 'amphitheatre' appropriately. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'In today' instead of 'Today' or 'Currently', and 'after constructing removed all the garden' which is awkward phrasing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, but it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with prepositions and sentence construction. Examples include 'near the Eldon street' (should be 'near Eldon Street'), 'In today' (incorrect usage), and 'around that added few seating area' (missing subject and article). These errors are frequent but do not generally impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb.
