Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the park in 1920 and today. You have successfully identified the main changes, such as the replacement of the fountain with a rose garden and the conversion of the stage into an amphitheater. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the transformation. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are precise; for instance, you mention the water feature is in the southeast corner, but the map shows it replaced the glasshouse in the southwest. Overall, the information is well-selected and the main trends are clearly highlighted.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the two time periods. The progression of ideas is clear, and you use some cohesive devices like 'In 1920' and 'Today' to signal shifts in time. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the lack of articles before nouns (e.g., 'a play ground' instead of 'a playground'). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'modernized', 'retained', and 'amphitheater' appropriately. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'given data' (which is less appropriate for a map) and 'a number seats' (should be 'a number of seats'). Additionally, there are some spelling and capitalization inconsistencies, such as 'play ground' and 'Glasshouse'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring consistent terminology when describing the features of the park.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the fountain is replaced by a rose garden which are surrounded') and subject-verb agreement. For example, 'rose garden which are' should be 'rose garden which is'. There are also missing articles throughout, such as 'There were two main entrance' instead of 'entrances'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be highly beneficial.
