Student answer (Band 5.5)

The diagrams demonstrate the information regarding how Grange Park constructed in 1920 and what changes experienced by it in today.

Overall, it is noticeable that there is not a single modification in entrances of park which are situated at north and south sides.

Firstly, the plans illustrate the idea about there are multiple amenities at west side such as stage for musicians located in middle of two rose gardens and it surrounded by four seating spaces in 1920, whereas, it there is extreme reconstruction at same side and currently, it is equipped by one rose garden with significant amphitheatre for concerts. On the east side of park, one rose garden took place, which were centre of entrance and pond for plants at north east corner.Front of these, glasshouse along side with seats in 1920.However,these areas are rebuild and changed into cafe and children play area at top right corner and opposite it new water feature and entrance for underground car park accomplished.

Moreover, though in 1920 the centre part of the garden was huge foundation, currently it demolished and developed rose garden which covered by seats at four various directions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the park in 1920 and today, successfully identifying key changes such as the amphitheatre and the cafe. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant trends, such as the general modernisation of the park's facilities. While the main features are selected, the description is sometimes cluttered, making it difficult to follow the spatial progression. The comparison between the two time periods is present, but the lack of a cohesive summary of the overall transformation prevents it from reaching a higher band. The information is generally accurate, but the presentation could be more structured to highlight the most important changes more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, the use of 'Firstly' and 'Moreover' feels somewhat forced rather than naturally guiding the reader through the spatial layout. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'Front of these', which lacks a clear antecedent. While there is a general attempt to group information by location, the progression within paragraphs is disjointed. Improved use of cohesive devices and clearer signposting of locations would significantly enhance the readability and logical flow of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices and non-standard collocations, such as 'how Grange Park constructed' (should be 'was constructed') and 'what changes experienced by it'. The use of 'extreme reconstruction' is also slightly unnatural in this context. While the student attempts to use specific terms like 'amphitheatre' and 'glasshouse', the overall range is limited, and the errors in word formation and collocation occasionally distract the reader. Expanding the range of descriptive verbs and nouns related to urban planning would help improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. Common issues include missing articles ('at west side', 'at north and south sides'), incorrect verb forms ('how Grange Park constructed'), and awkward sentence construction ('it there is extreme reconstruction'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents the writing from being considered fluent or accurate. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be highly beneficial.
