The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The two maps illustrate the structural changes and developments that occurred in Grange Park from its opening in 1920 to the present day.

Overall, the park has been extensively redeveloped from a traditional green space into a more modern, leisure -oriented public facility. While the core north and south entrances have remained unchanged, almost every major feature inside the park has been repurposed, built over, or replaced by entertainment facilities.

In 1920, the center of the park featured a water fountain, which has since been removed and replaced by a large rose garden completely encircled by seating. To the west, the original stage for musicians has been completely converted into a massive amphitheater designed for concerts, facing the opposite direction. This development led to the removal of the original peripheral seating on the western border and the cleaning of the southwest corner's rose garden.

Significant updates are also on the eastern side. The rose garden situated near the northern entry off Arnold Avenue has been substituted with a cafe. Just south of it, the old pond for water plants was cleared to make way for a modern children's play area. Furthermore, the glasshouse in the southeastern zone was demolished, and a water feature was built in its place. Finally, an entirely new entrance was introduced in the southeastern corner providing direct access via an underground car park built off Eldon Street.
