IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The map depicts how a public park develops from 1920 till today.

Overall, the initial plan was simple with scattered sitting areas and more rose gardens. However, today many new additions give the recreational spot a complete look.

To commence with, as you entered the park there was a big fountain in the center but now it is replaced with a large square-shaped rose garden along with the seat of the either sides of the garden. In past, roses were arranged into different spots; one on the right side of Arnold avanue entrance gate while other two had fixed position on the northern and the southern side of the stage for musicians. This gazebo style stage was present on the left side of fountain, which is now have been replaced with semi-circular shaped amphitheatre.

Further analyzing the map, in 1920, there was a pond on the northern right corner of the park, which served the purpose of watering plants. Today, it is converted into childern's play area. On the opposite side of pond, there was glasshouse, which is removed and water feature is added to compensate for pond.
